So, class, tell teacher what you all did this over the weekend ?
Well teacher, I helped my daddy to make bullets. What ?? Real bullets ? Erm class, please do some revision, teacher has to erm pop out for a moment. Hello is that the police ? Happened to me As soon as old enough ( as is common in rural Ireland ) and tall enough to be able to carry a shotgun without bogging it in the mud, I was taught how to shoot and trusted to roam our farm with a single barrel hammer gun. Licence, whats a licence ? However, at school show and tell, we had a new hippy dippy liberal teacher ( an English woman who had relocated to Ireland to escape violent London schools - we almost drove her to distraction ) decided to call the Gardai. Cue local Garda turning up at home, me showing him my gun handling drills, him complimenting my dad on his coaching and then departing wishing me good hunting for the future. !! Happy days in a land where common sense was applied ( less so now ) to shooting. The same garda knew about 20 old boys who had .303s and 7.92s from 1916 ( mostly rusty and siezed up and ammo that might not work ) but never confiscated them as it would get "emotional" - instead he just turned up as soon as each one passed away and THEN took the rifle in. Top man - he is retired now and his replacement in the village is known as Robocop as he has no discretion capabilities at all
