Join the crowd.  Jess informed me the other day that they cashed the check for her Pilot ...... I said ok .... give it 3 months.

If you do that - buy an already registered SBR - can you swap the calibers and barrel lengths?  I know when you create an SBR lower and pay the tax stamp, you can list all barrels and calibers you plan to use on the form.  Wouldn't this one be fixed at that barrel length and caliber?

You can swap the uppers around either way you do it. As long as you return it to it's registered configuration, anything else is a temporary configuration.

Anyone have a link to ATF opinion letters or regulations indicating this?  I don't doubt that it is true so much as I doubt they wouldn't change their minds if we didn't have tangible proof that it is okay.

I'm thinking of going SBR, and I don't relish the idea of having my name and city/state glowing on the side of my rifle for all to see.  See the pic above for what I mean: XXXX XXXX, Rocky Face, GA.

engrave it under the trigger guard then

The ATF doesnt specify exactly where on the lower you need to engrave other than it needs to be in a spot that is visible without dissassembly.

Mine will hopefully be done under the trigger guard on either side of the trigger opening.

Also the AFT doesnt say that you cant refinish or take a sharpie and color in the engraving ... just that the engraving must be there.

Plus, I just read that you put the name of the trust as the name in the engraving.  I can call my trust anything, right?  Who cares if my trust's name and city is on there?  Thieves who may see me at the range can't find me in the phonebook via my trust name.

Correct, the name of who is making the firearm is whos name is engraved.  If your trust makes the SBR then your trust is what gets engraved.  Your trust does not have to be the same as your name but it is advised to do so since its harder to prove that you are a trustee of "ARFCOM Trust" than it is to say I am a trustee of "Engineer2001 Trust" here is my DL saying that I am engineer2001.

I'm sorry to hijack this thread (congrats, Mrs Monk, on your impending shorty rifle goodness  I hope to be in this same place VERY soon).

However, if getting this transferred to a trust, I need to make a trust. I have been reading info here:  http://forums.officer.com/showthread.php?t=107341.  I read the FAQ here, but it made my head hurt - all jumbled up and more info added years later in later posts.

I just make the trust with successor trustees specified (my wife and baby), get it witnessed and notarized, and stick it in a filing cabinet?  I don't need to file it with anyone like a probate court or anything or get it approved in any way?  Why does this seem too easy?

Mrs Monk, did you go the trust route too?

Mine was also cashed on the 5th. So hopefully there will be SBR goodness in the spring time.

I'll take a pic of mine, the engraving is tiny, and it isn't white, it's the same color as the receiver. Honestly you can barely tell it's there.

Form 4 just came back on my 10.5".  Check  cashed 9-25.
The wait can be the hardest part.  Best thing to do is 'try' to forget about it for awhile.  Just don't forget to by sights
