Media pundits predicted if Teachout received 30% it would be humiliating to the Governor. She got more than that: Cuomo - 62.1% Teachout - 34.2% Credico - 3.6% Hochul - 59.9% Wu - 40.1% We made two endorsements. In the 40th Senate District Bob Castelli lost the GOP primary for an open seat. In the 60th Senate District, Kevin Stocker defeated incumbent Mark Grisanti in the GOP primary. Grisanti voted for SAFE. We also helped push out Malcolm Smith in the 14th Senate District with GOTV postcards. Smith voted for SAFE. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the PVF. Here is some fallout.
Bisso, Jones and Arnold attended almost every anti unsafe act rally throughout the state. These three promised to repeal and fight for second amendment rights in New York. These three are gun owners and wanted to go to Albany to fight for gun owners. Gun owners couldn't get off their asses to vote in the primaries for candidates who have been in the fight against unsafe act from day 1. Kind of tells you that the more things changed (our gun rights were stolen completely), the more things stay the same (gun owners don't give a shit and stay home on Election Day when their vote can make a difference). Think about how Libous was voted back in....friend of cuomo, voted to allow unsafe to reach the senate floor for vote, indicted for corruption..... Pathetic. New York truly does deserve its fate. |

Bisso race was close and it may not be a done deal. Jones and Arnold, although principled, had very flawed campaigns and the legal troubles for Maziarz and Libous did not emerge until very late in the cycle. |

Every single person who runs has flawed campaigns.
Cuomo's campaign was extremely flawed and he won. No excuse for gun owners not voting for people of like mind and principle. None. How can anyone justify voting for Libous? It doesn't matter the charges came late in the campaign. The charges against Libous came before people went to vote yesterday. For years I heard "we need people in Albany who stand for our gun rights!" Then when given the chance they stick with the status quo: rinos and establishment candidates. Oh well. Why should I be surprised or pissed off???? |

Governor Andrew Cuomo, who recently polled a 16% approval rating in Schoharie County, warded off a serious challenge in Tuesday's Democratic Party primary against Zephyr Teachout, who ran an inexpensive insurgent campaign...
...In Schoharie County, Teachout won in a landslide: Teachout: 71.1% - 361 Cuomo: 24.6% - 125 Credico: 4.3% - 22 Teachout's percentage was third-highest in Schoharie County, trailing only Columbia County's 77.9% and Otsego County's 72.7%. http://www.theschoharienews.com/2014/09/cuomo-wins-bruising-primary-challenge.html While she lost the Democratic primary for governor in statewide balloting, progressive professor Zephyr Teachout was the top vote-getter in 31 of New York's 62 counties.
Her supporters said her strong challenge to Cuomo showed that populist candidates with a strong message on ethics and opposition to gas drilling resonate with those frustrated with the status quo in Albany. One of Teachout's biggest victories came in Otsego County, where Democrats bucked county Democratic Richard Abbate and gave her nearly three-quarters of the primary vote. The complete list of the parties won by Teachout is as follows: Albany, Chenango, Clinton, Columbia, Cortland, Delaware, Dutchess, Essex, Fulton, Greene, Hamilton, Madison, Montgomery, Ontario, Otsego, Putnam, Rensselaer, St. Lawrence, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Schuyler, Seneca, Sullivan, Tioga, Tompkins, Ulster, Warren, Washington, Wayne, Yates. No matter how Cuomo tries to spin it that is a stunning rebuke from within his own party. |

But in 2010 it was the less flawed of the two campaigns. His opponent's campaign was a mess. So far, this time around, the mess is all on Andy's side. Quoted:

I find it a little disturbing that a carpetbagger commie pinko loon like Teachout garnered that many votes. I guess if it pisses off FUAC mission accomplished. To me it just shows how far down the commie cesspool this state has gone. This exactly has me convinced this state is fucked. |

To me it just shows how far down the commie cesspool this state has gone. I know quite a few people who voted for her...because they are registered democrats (who vote republican, but have not changed their party affiliation) and I told them to. These are people who have never voted in a primary, have no idea what a teachout is and don't even like most democrats. They just hate Cuomo, and when I let them know there was a way to mess with him, they liked the idea. I am pretty sure a huge majority of the upstate votes for her are the same. |

To me it just shows how far down the commie cesspool this state has gone. A lot of it was state union based. They are still pissed with Cuomo over the last contract. Turnout wasn't that big really. Only democrats can vote in the democrat primary and it wasn't a bit turnout. The fact that Teachout got such a large% only speaks to the discord within the Democrat party which is a good thing. Initially Cuomo played it safe- Remember back pre-SAFE when Cuomo pretended to be a moderate or even possibly a fiscal realist if not conservative, as though he was taking a page out of Bill Clinton's playbook? That stance pissed off the zealot Progressives in the Democrat party and his stance on the state union contracts pissed off all the CSEA and PEF workers. His support for Common Core and teacher Evaluations pissed off the Teacher Unions. Now he has to steer left to try and regain the support he has lost within his own party. Thus undoing the whole reasonable moderate image he tried to build to begin with. Can you imagine what a tizzy his campaign has been in for the last month or so? |
