www.oregon.gov/DPSST/PS/index.shtml Everything you need to know about security licensing in the state of Oregon. |
If central station work pays the way used to, sucky is an understatement. It was a step of from the minimum wage +10%+uniform allowance contract security gig though. I worked 1000+hours of overtime in one year in a central station. |
Exactly.... I looked into being a driver for Brinks while I was unemployed....really, just for kicks because they had an ad up. The on-line application took damn near an hour to complete, but the end of the "test "was awesome: Are you afraid of guns? A) Yes B) No |

More like $21 an hour... to start (depending on the department). |

I am a a current card holder for 123&4 in Texas. Armed security will: Eat all your weekends. Eat all your nights. Pays about $14 for an armed guard. Pays about $20-35 for plainclothes work. Is Booring. Means long hours of inactivity all alone. No matter how many movies you like you will loose the taste for DVDs. It means working for someone else and any of their bullshit rules they can think up. Including all the ones that can get you killed. I am getting out after 1 year at two company's. And having seen all the others and KNOWING how thick the bullshit is. Anyone in Dallas need a welder? I thought armed security would be fun, Easy, Profitable. It is not any of those, but the easy part. There are nonthinking slobs ingrained in it everywhere. Even the ones who deserve it NEVER get fired. If You find yourself in an interesting spot Great. Milk it. Better your self, and move on it is a career dead end. I got in thinking it would be a good combo of Guns, and Money to be made. It is not. Yeah it is a living but you have no life after your shift. Yeah it sucks unless you get lucky. Or you KNOW someone. |
Douglas county offers $17 and change to start. Another city, Rogue something er rather was offering $14 for a police officer, had to already be certified. |
Yea... as much as I like my job... I would not do it for that wage. I believe most of the larger municipalities in the valley are $20+ to start. You'll never get rich but it's pretty good pay and a rewarding job.

Theres obviously really good money in Private Security, Just not in low-risk. The ex LEM peeps get the High Risk Jobs in the states. You could try to get on with the various Private Security firms contracted to the US Governement like the well known company Black Water. Looks somewhat feasible... Black Water USA |
