| I and a few families from down here are thinking of setting up house around the Lovell, Cowley, Deaver area. What can you guys tell me about that part of the state? |

If you found an agent in Lovell, they will likely handle listings in all of those towns as they are all next to each other, with Lovell being the largest of the set by far.
When I moved out here from NY it was into Lovell. I heard horror stories about nothing to do and it being a very religious community. I loved living in Lovell. There are almost no options for eating out. There are even fewer for shopping. However, if you move to Wyoming for any of those things, you will be in for a shock. The people are very nice. The nicest I've ever met. As long as you don't mind the "fragrance of nature" that is common to farming communities, and If you like hiking and the shooting sports, Lovell is a fantastic place to live. The Big Horn National Recreation area is 20 minutes away and has some of the best hiking I've ever seen. The Lovell rod and gun club is 5 minutes away if your more comfortable shooting at an actual range. |

My wife and I were out there a couple of weeks ago and looked around the area. We are not city folks by any means and enjoyed our time out there. I was wondering about the religious community. I know the majority of that area is LDS and had heard that non-LDS people were not treated well (actually was told that an LDS store owner refused to sell anything to a person because they were not part of the LDS). It is good to know that is not stereotypical.
I checked with Johnson Home and Land, but did not see anything in the other areas....at least nothing besides single lots. I'll keep checking around. I got a buddy out there and hope he will have some luck in that department. I really appreciate the responses guys! |

Our family is huge and we are all Catholics not a huge problem until you wanna get married then it can get crazy if you wanna intermix religions but I have seen it done.....haha but ya there is a bunch of goofy stories about this area and each town... truth be told all are great places to live with great people... Happy House Hunting... |

Tag for your first winter after action review.
Let us know if you have anymore questions. LOL! Yea, I've heard the winters are somewhat different than those in AL. Of course we are looking forward to the summers there, it will bea thrill to actually have sweat evaporate. |

What made you consider Big Horn County? Cheap real-estate, better weather than most of WY, less people, one, I repeat, one traffic light , gorgeous scenery, plenty of BLM and National Forrest to enjoy; need I go on?
Oh, and you get a nice 9 on your license plate.
That said, I'm glad I live in Powell. |

Besides the winters.....what's not to love? Wildlife, nature, and an affinity for firepower. Honestly, being from NY, my wife and I were wondering what all the fuss was about. This is high desert. The air is always dry regardless of the season so even when it does snow, it's like powder... you could shovel your driveway in 30 seconds with a leaf blower. Having lived in Lovell and worked both to the South in Basin and then to the west in Cody, I can confirm that the weather in Lovell and most of Big Horn County does tend to be nicer than the surrounding area. I've only been here 2 and a half years but I had heard the winters in Lovell were more mild and that is what I experienced. I'll admit, living in a town with LITERALLY ONE traffic light took some getting used to... about 2 days actually! Now, I'm like the locals and I get upset if I have to sit at a traffic light for longer than 10 seconds. I had commutes from Lovell to Basin where I would see only one other car for my whole drive until I got into town. You don't realize how much you despise all traffic until you have basically none. I can't stop smiling just thinking about it!! |
| One traffic light won't be so bad...I once lived in a town that had 1.5 traffic lights (one warning light and one traffic light). I had heard that the snow there is like powder and doesn't stick together like it does in the NE (or south when we get it every now and then). |

I lived between Deaver and Cowley for 25 years. One thing to think about is if you want almost anything at the best price you will be driving to Powell (20 miles), Cody (45 miles), or Billings (~100 miles). Running Horse Realty in Powell is the one you want. Byron might have some housing after they lost the high school. |
