Well, since the rest of New England makes fun of how little NH people have to post about, I thought I would post about my issues renewing my concealed carry permit in NH.

I notice my permit was about to expire in a couple of weeks, so I filled out the renewal application (an entire half page long!!!!!!!!) and dropped it off at my local PD.

I went back two weeks latter and they made me wait five whole minutes while they typed up the application!!!!!!!!!!!

I am shocked and outraged that I had to pay $10.00 for the four year license. That's $2.50 a year!

Just be forewarned. If you are going to get your NH concealed carry license, they may make you wait a while they type it up. Plus, Don't forget to bring your $10.00 fee.

At least I did not need to take a class or some other dumb sh*t. But then again, what state would require you to take a class before exercising a right.

How's everyone else in New England doing these days.

What are these permits you speak of?

Just over the border, here in Vermont, the wait time is even shorter; as in non-existent.

Imagine, not having to have to have a permit, and being able to carry concealed or open.

I remember when I first got my permit, I dropped off my app and check for 10 dollars.. Three days later I get a call saying to come pick it up. It took me 6 frigging months in mass to get my LTC.

Damn you, damn you all to hell!

It is ridiculous that we can't have them here.  It's my understanding that it has more to do with "hunters" illegally taking animals than anything else; as if poachers are going to go through the NFA process/waiting, pay the tax, and pay the cost of a suppressor.

Funny thing about NH, however.  I sent my renewal in for my non-res permit back in April.  I'm still waiting.  I called and heard a recording that they are 3 months behind in issuing them.  So, my current permit has now expired.

Anyway, enjoy this all while you can.  You are just about 2 steps behind the rest of liberal New England according to this article:

The state is considering a bunch of pissant fee increases to balance the budget.

Yeah, sounds like our freedom is really in jeapordy there. Sounds like we'll have a CT-style AWB and permit process any day now.

Not being able to get supressors in VT is because there is a state law on the books regarding them.  If a state has a law regulating them, the ATF will not process any applications for supressors in that state.

VT state law regarding surpessors came from 70+/- years ago when people were using them to jack deer.  VT made it a misdemeanor, with a $25 fine, to possess a supressor.  And the funnny part is, your supressor does not get confiscated!  But, try that now, and you'll be dealing with Federal law.  If VT would strike that $25 fine regarding supressors, the NFA would process them for you!

I have decided to get a NH non-resident permit.  I will be moving from NC soon, and will likely have to relinquish my permit.  The SC permit does not have reciprocity with 3 southern states...NH does.  So the main question I suppose I have is...NH non-res permit requires a valid CCW permit from another state.  My NC permit is good as of now, and my current address is good as of now, but by the time they issue it, I'll be in another state.  This will likely suck ass...but I don't know yet...we'll see.

Sent off for a NH non resident in Feb or March and it just arrived. 4-5 month wait! My home state CCW is valid there, it was cheap so went for it. If the price goes up, I will not re new.

Next go for CT & Mass non resident.

I was told for a Mass non-resident, you need to appear in person.

Plus the fee is somewhat higher than the NH non-resident.

You do not need to show up in person for a MA Non Resident Class A LTC. Actually you can't show up even if you wanted to. It is all done through the mail. It costs $100 to the state and you need to take the appropriate MA Pistol course. I have all the paperwork listed half way down this thread Link

It is not an unattainable license as soo many people here think, I have just recieved my Non Resident Class A No Restriction Carry License without too much trouble other than it getting lost in the mail once. Just fill out the forms and jump through the hoops. Its is worth it to be able to cross state lines carrying and not get locked up, Plus with a Mass and NH Carry licenses it covers about  half the country.

What about Gov't buildings or schools?  There are no State prohibitions against carrying in Gov't buildings or schools.

Can you carry in State Gov't building in NH?  YES, except courthouses.
Can you carry in Federal Gov't buildings in NH?  NO.  Federal law prohibits this.
Can you carry in schools in NH?  There are no state prohibitions against carrying in schools. It all comes down to your interpretation of the Federal GFSZA, and whether or not it's exempted in NH's case.  I, as well as Gun Owners of New Hampshire (GO-NH), believe NH is exempted under the law.

More clear now?

Right.  For some reason, some states add on strange restrictions that either duplicate Federal ones (some states prohibit carrying in Federal buildings, for example), or add their own strange flavor (churches, parades, "public events.")  It can be like treading a minefield.  VT doesn't require you to get a license, but prohibits you from carrying in schools; NH requires a license, but doesn't prohibit carrying in schools; and then there's VA, that requires a license, and allows you to carry in your car on school property, if for example you're picking up your kids, but not if you get out of the car.  I mean, WTF?

Brilliant.

But who goes to jail?  A dead gunman who just killed a bunch of children, or a well-meaning Constitutional scholar such as yourself.  Remember how perception works... it's not helping the fight for broad 2A freedoms if you make a scene.

On that note, I fully support being able to CC on my campus, however that day isn't here yet, and I value my education very highly at this point in time.

Two things:

1. I have never seen a "No weapons" sign in front of any school in NH. I have kids.  I'm at schools a lot.  They may well be out there somewhere, but I have never seen one.
2. A "No Weapons" sign in NH has no force of law in and of itself.  Likewise, if the sign says "No Bare Feet" you're not breaking any laws by simply going in barefoot.  If a building is legally posted "No Weapons," i.e. it's private property, then someone who has the authority within that building can ask you to leave if they notice a weapon, and have you arrested if you refuse.   Same as if you enter barefoot in the "No Bare Feet" place.  But, unlike some other states, NH law does not automatically prohibit you from carrying in places marked as such.
