Any of you know of any public land that are littered with garbage? Dump sites, target practice areas, anything. Project Wilderness, a nonprofit I founded, is looking to do a couple forest cleanup projects.

Hey GelFreak, I just wanted to give you a solid FUCK YEA for your efforts.

There are several places up on the Sammon Berry Road off of Hwy 26 about MP 31.7 heading toward the coast.About 2 miles up this road there is a road that goes off to the left to a fair size rock where people go to shoot and leave there trash behind. I have cleaned this area by myself before when I had a place to get rid of the trash but now that I have retired that is no longer possible.

I just wanted to share something with everyone. As I'm sure some of you recall Project Wilderness did a cleanup on the Triangle Gravel Pit in the Capitol State Forest near Olympia, WA in OCT. Removing 11 truck loads of garbage.

The DNR expressed serious concern over this site and wanted to explore all options to solve the problem of dumping and irresponsible shooting.  I offered to form & mentor a local steward group of local shooters to look after, maintain the site and help educate shooters that probably don't understand the risk this location is at for closure, however I asked for DNR stamp of approval on the group before starting to ask people to step up to the plate.

They have decided to go in a different direction. Closure. They're looking at finding a spot in the forest to be an "official" shooting area, but not sure if that will happen.

So just a reminder to everyone that public lands are consistently at risk for closure to certain activities if we don't cleanup after ourselves.

Moving on,

Last week we did some habitat restoration along the Tualatin River with Tualatin River Keepers. Actually the 2nd time we worked with them. We had a great turnout, 22 people.

This weekend we'll be in Tillamook at the "Mills" launch along the Wilson River removing english ivy that has fully covered 3 trees, still surviving at the moment though. As well as removing a huge amount of Himalayan blackberries in prep for some natives to go in. Feel free to come help out. The link below offers detailed location, we'll be working around 9am-noon . We're not expecting a large crowd this time, but could always use an extra hand if you're from the area ;)

You should do this anyway, without approval.  I get the feeling they don't think it will help (thus moving for closure) but if you press forward and show them, then you may have some luck later on down the road.
