I am not by any means very mechanically inclined but I do want to learn. One of my good friends is so inclined and we got to talking about building me a hunting/outdoor vehicle of some sort. I was just wondering if anyone locally has ever done a project vehicle and how did it go for them? and maybe a good starting point for a beginner?
I guess my only question is to where to find an old vehicle. (most likely a 80's chevy suburban) I know I want 4wheel drive, big or small block doesnt really matter and I am set on chevy, I am not looking for fancy just cheap. Any imput on any of the mentioned topics would be greatly appreciated and if you have pics of what you have done please feel free to share |

Why an 80's suburban? Just like the looks? I bet you could find one from the 90's, just as cheap, but maybe in better shape to start out in. A suburban from 1989- to about 1995 will have fuel injection, and they are fairly simple, compared to an 80's electronic carb + lots of emissions and vacumn lines. |

the looks have a bit to do with it.
the actual mechanics of the vehicle in the engine will be based upon what is available. the guy that is going to help put it together has a big block and a small block in his garage that need to be completely re-built and I will be able to learn on them and buy one from him for pretty cheap. I sat in his brothers 85 suburban and i fit in it pretty well so I was just basing it off of the look, how i physically fit in it, and what $$ I can put in it. |
