OK, so as I much as I follow politics, I wasn't prepared for one of the props being voted on, the one regarding unaffiliated city police and their ultimate authority.

Anyone well versed?

Kujoe will be along shortly.

Anywho, this thing has gone through a few revisions.  The good:  pentions are out of the hands of Slay either way, complaints against superiors would be both confidential and not useable against subordinates.  The Bad:  officers charged - but NOT necessarily found to have broken - with breaking dept rules would have their complaints available to the public, Slay would have further control over the SLMPD's day-to-day and dept appropriations would get even more political (what equipment gets bought from where, etc).

I voted against.  Screw Slay, he gets to keep his spot on the State Board but no further hands in the dept.  Ditto KCMOPD.

I don't know much about that one in particular but as a general rule I always vote NO on all props.

Prop T is to sell bonds to cover the cost of firefighting equipment upgrades in North County fire district, Prop S increases the headcount and skillset for special ed teachers and one was to place the power of healthcare exchanges with the GA and not the Governor's office or other branches of the state government.  I gave a 'yes' to those.  The rest, no.  If I could have voted 'hell no!' to Prop B, I would have.  There are NO provisions on 'educational spending' that keeps that money in that bucket, if the Educational sub-committee wants to pass it out they can w/o ANY oversight.  Screw that.

I have always voted NO on any "sin" tax. Those are just opening a can of worms...

Had a county measure here that wanted to impose a new half cent or some such tax collected by the county for the benefit of autism, handicapped, etc. children. No mention of what agency receives funds or how they are to be used. Just that the county would raise the levy by that much for that purpose.

I voted against it even though I know several people with kids that might benefit.  If there was some better reckoning of how the money would be spent and by who, I might have considered it.

Library district has a definite end user. Ambulance district has a definite end user. Schools, fire, PWSD, and so on.

I'm not voting for anything that is open ended and non-specific.

Sometimes I think these propositions are written poorly with the intent of failure.  Another efficient use of public funds.

My rule on props and judges. If I don't know I leave it blank. If I can read and understand the props then I always vote no on a prop that gives more power to the government or an office.

I did however vote for the cig tax.

I'm not a smoker, but if they were to propose an ammo tax, would you vote the same way ?

The pension issue was removed as part of the amended final referendum.  Still, I didn't want to see a jerkoff like Slay get his own private army police force.

The fight is not over.  This was only step one in Slay's plan.  All it takes is another bill, tacked on amendment, or another ballot initiative to bring the pension to city hall.  He says publicly that this was not about the money, but those close to his cuff have confidentially told us that it is only a matter of time before the next step is taken...

Using that logic when an asshat governor is elected the Feds should come in and take over the State Police.....  There is absolutely no reason for the state to be in charge of any part of a local government.

The City of St. Louis is what it is, dying.  Don't like it? Change it (impossible), embrace it, or move....

My girlfriend works in your crime lab; they haven't been told anything about how this is really going to affect the department.

Other than the mayor axing pensions, what short term effects are we looking at?
