I was thinking of joining the AF reserve, and had a few questions. Could anyone whom is in the Air Force send me an email or IM. Any info would be great. Thanks in advance. SLM |

RANT on: Unless you come in as an officer and have the Ocard (officer) to play when everything goes to shit, you are an asshole victim otherwise. I sit surrounded by professionals who have done what needs to be done, the deed, stood up and shot rounds in anger. they go questined daily because we are enlisted and the Os will never know. They deal in papers instead of lives. Day to day you are a piece of fodder as an enlisted XXX. We go out into harms way day by day, not for anything else than to mutually support each other. If you want to come out and shoot heavy weapons, or anything otherwise, I have scores of compadres on this board who can attest to fun never ending. Give me a PM. Outside of that, your initial motivation MUST accompany to execution.... Dying in Iraq for shit otherwise stated as a hero, is crap. I have lost 3 men and 3 good friends (not attached to my unit) in sister units for nothing more than what a regular dude would consider dropping off newspapers or going out to pick up a buddy to go shopping here in the USA. I have civie police friends (even more EMS troops) who deal with the SAME life threatening crap everyday with nothing but complaints to warm their beds at night. God bless you all. If you want suicide, join UP NOW! You will be deployed with the guarantee of ineptness and incompetence, roll the dice (you can do it here with more of a reward alot cheaper). If you respect yourself. Wait and stay ready for the opportune time. Ready for the chiming in... ![]() If you are opinionated and are not active duty military, GREAT write your info down and keep it to yourself...I could give a damn less about your way to win the war. I just found out (TICs) troops in contact have lost all fast mover support (F15) because airframes are compromised. Boy we are really helping the war effort!!! Peace is selling, but who's buying...??? Seriously, if you want to shoot the 416/417 and other junk you will not be able to own as a civie, give me a buzz. We'll shoot it on my range this SHOT. PM me. Don't forum roll to feel important... In closing of the rant - Go out and be an EMT. They are the REAL day to day heros. Pull some poor incapacitated SOB and reset their lives is where it is at. RANT done...let the bullets (opinions) fly! V OUT |
Interesting,it's always good to get the weight off your shoulders and let your Bullets Fly Free,,,,Just let it out Tis' OK |

Slim, You're welcome to PM me but I don't know that much about the Reserves, I've only been active duty. As far as what V has said, you have to understand that he's in what I would consider one of, if not THE worst career field in the AF. Worst as in putting up with shit, being deployed all the time, being shot at, doing "Army" work etc etc. Although I have mad respect for all the Security Forces folks I wouldn't touch that job with a 100' pole. I did it for a few years as an augmentee, one time working 2 months "on flight". Now, not saying auggies are the same as "real" security forces guys but I will tell you it was enough of an eye-opener for me to say that anyone that sticks it out as an AF cop for an entire career is either crazy, a glutton for punishment, or both. It's my opinion that most of the "E" jobs in the AF are decent and most of them do not put you in the shit like V (and a ton of AF SF) are in now.....especially since they're doing Army M.P.'s jobs. My .02 is that if someone is telling you to become an officer then they need to be telling you to become a rated officer.....those are the "fair-haired" boys. I was practically begged to become an officer about 3 different times during my career (by different officers, including one full bird Colonel) however, since I have a color vision problem I knew that flying would be out of the question. Personally, I wouldn't want to be an O unless I was rated. Non-rated Os are 2nd class citizens from my experience and personally I'd rather be an E in a good career field than a non-rated O. |

IMO if you want to be an Air Force Officer, you should talk to those who are/where officers in the Air Force. They can give you first hand experience on what it takes to become a Officer, and what you can expect as an Officer once you are in. If you want to go Enlisted, find yourself a good NCO and sit down and talk with them to hear their perspective. Officer and Enlisted are two entirely different worlds. Both have the positives and negatives. |

Sorry guys my DSL line went down and just got it up. I returned the IM'S that I have recieved. Thank you for all the feed back. I was looking to go Security Forces or CATAM. I have prior AD Army service as a 91B, and have a degree. But don't really want to become an officer nor stay as a medic. I have been kinda kicking around the idea of the nasty guard. But my buddy whom is in the AFR told me to take a look. So I'm just kinda doing my due diligence. And V it seems like your not the only one living with the termanaly stupid. I have a buddy in Afganastan and another in Iraq, and they say the same thing. And my condolances to your 3 buddys. It's sad to loose anyone. |

Well, I guess if it's something you must do, definately go for with the IMA Reserve program if they let you in. You serve 39 days a year when you feel like it. All at once or one weekend/week at a time. Going in as Security Fuckus...the only good thing is that you don't have to drink the kool aid but 39 times a year. I live that nightmare. Don't get me started on the O-1-O-3 ranks and the SNCO corps is really sucking wind too it seems. We still have some good Msgts around. The AF decided to force shape the good CGO's and we are stuck with the ass kissing self serving college kids. As my E9 I served under in Baghdad said "if you can't live with the standards, maybe you should find a new career." Screw you and your standards and yes, I'm currently outprocessing. |
Yeah I hear you there man. Most of our orsifers were there just to pad thier rank in hopes of making bird or flag ranks. We had good SNCO's whom knew thier shit. It sucks that the ROTC nazzies and ring knockers tend to disreguard the guys who get the shit done. (No pun intended to any offiers out thier) I got lucky that both my CC and PC were both former enlisted. Got to love the military huh.
