| There have been about 3 sets of wheels/tires stolen of my block in the past 6 months (including my own truck). The latest was last night and happen directly accros from my house. About 9PM tonight two officers (plainclothes) rang my bell. I was shown badge and was told about the robbery (which I explained I already knew about). They asked me about my exterior cameras. I told them they have not been working for the past week or so (which is true). I told them that someone else on my block has cameras and to ask him. With all the home invasions that have been going on my question is how do I really identify an officer? These guys had the badge/gun/radio and seemed legit so I spoke to them for 5 min and they left. Back in my mide though I keep thinking what if it was fake? Is an officer who knocks on your door required to give you his card etc? Any tips to make sure the next time someone knocks I can be sure the are LEO? |
| A police officer is required to show you his/her department issued shield and picture ID card when requested to do so. If a PO comes to your door there is nothing wrong in asking to see his shield/ID card and if you have any doubt calling your PD to verify his status as an employee of the department. |
Actually, I had that happen, and I looked at my shield to make sure I was holding it right side up. |
