What do you have now ? What do you want the weapon to do for you/at what distance? currently i dont have an AR style rifle. What do i want it to do, uh well bust out hardcore "Heat" style for starters... im really not that interested in an Ar that will be for much more than 100 yards. I have bolt guns for going beyond that. It would probly wear irons for simplicity as well... |

He is like 19 and looks like a jewish version of hanson the band. Rides a bmw f800 Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile oh ok, i remember that guy. Only becuase he fits the stereotype of BMW riders... Edit: do you lads meet at Sonic up on Division often? I have seen a bunch of bikes there a few times before... |

I have 308, 6.8SPC and 556.
I much perfer the 556 for ammo, if you don't handload it is the only choise. 308 has gotten sky high. 6.8SPC is $1 per round for SSA. The 6.8 is fun to shoot but it pretty much drops like a rock after 250 yards. My A1 clone is dead assed accurate out to 300 yards even with my old eyes and standard sights. |

Sonic is every tuesday for two wheel tuesdays. I might ride the klr down there this week. I will be the guy on one crutch. T Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Maybe ill show up, ill be in a Jeep though as my bikes front tire decided it would be cool to talk to the radiator... oh yeah back to the topic, I have kinda thought of getting a standard 223, 20" A2 like i had a few years ago... |

5.56mm
Get a working gun first that you can break in, wring out, and know works when you need it to. Whle all ammo is expensive, 5.56mm is still common and easier to get ahold of then nearly all the other calibers put together. It's also much cheaper then the other calibers, thusly allowing you to get more range time and shoot it more. After you get your basic "working" rifle built, then start playing around with your future builds. |

Those are pretty good slams, guys! Actually, when I signed up for a membership here, I wanted a username of "M-16" - but that was already taken. So for "M" I used "Mongoose" because it is pound-for-pound one of the most ferocious creatures on earth - it even kills poisonous snakes like the king cobra! When I saw those cheap Chinese BMX bikes in Walmart labeled "Mongoose", I was really pissed! / OP: Sorry to hijack your thread with my warped sense of humor. The correct answer is to get them all! My opinion is that you should start with the 5.56mm first. |

Best to cover the basics as far as your first is concerned, then branch out to the variants if you still think there is a need. |

I quit hanging around the BMX bike aisle over 40 years ago.
BMX bikes didn't exist 40 years ago. Your absolutly corrrect. 40 years ago the trend was a slightly smaller bike with smaller fat tires, not a BMX bike but one of the things that lead to them. |
