im going to be getting my NC permit soon, but since i am still an ohio resident when i leave the military my NC one becomes void.

if i go back to ohio with my NC permit, do i have to do all the paperwork over again and wait the required time?

CHP?  Concealed handgun permit?

Ohio recognizes NC's permit so there's nothing you have to do in the near term.

To get an Ohio CHL (concealed handgun license) just requires your DD214 or military ID card and the application.  This assumes you have an Ohio drivers license.  This documents you're an Ohio resident.

I'm guessing you'll be on terminal leave at the end so there's no reason to "turn in" your NC CHP that I can determine, or how they'd know to ask for it back.

i think since im an ohio resident (my DL is ohio), then they will put my end of service date on the permit as my expiration date.

Just pickup an Ohio CHL the next time you're home on leave.  Your green ID card and $40 should be all you need.  Tell the sheriff you're home on leave and they may expedite the process.  Some folks have reported getting theirs in two or three days.

NC has many more reciprocal agreements than Ohio.
