I am planning to have my Septic Tank Pumped / Cleaned (it is a 1000 gal Tank) for the 1st time and I was wondering if somebody would be able to give me an idea of how much something like this will cost me. I have no clue and would like to be prepared and have some knowledge when I call some of these Companies out here in my area. I figure some of you will have had something like this done and thus will have an idea what this will cost. As I mentioned this will be the 1st time that this Tank will be cleaned it was installed new in March of 2006. Also do they empty the entire thing and than fill it with water or how does this process work. Is there something in particular that I need to look out for an be aware off when I call these Companies.

I appreciate any help you can provide me and thank you very much for taking the time to read this.

thank you very much

After they clean it out you should look into one of the once a month septic treatments that help keep the Bacteria going strong.

thanks for your help guy's.
I use something that I put into the Tank once a month either Rid-Ex or some stuff that Roto-Rooter makes. I was also told that baking soda and yeast would do the job.

$200-250.  Call around.  If you're in STL, Walach Septic out of Cedar Hill was the cheapest I found.  I used ABR because I needed my system worked on, and Walach just pumps.

My guy said don't screw around with that RidX stuff, but I have a mutli-flow / aerator / drip system which is different.  Not sure if that included the regular systems.

200 - 300 sounds about right. Now do you have all of your access ports with stacks to covers that are just below ground level or even above ground level? When I bought my house the first chamber port was like 2 feet below grade. The guy that came out to pump it out was kind of pissed that I did not have the dirt removed so that he could just open the port / cover. Thats till he found out that I was a city boy that didn't know better. He got the chance to sell me a collar that raised the cover so it is only a few inches below grade.

Once they pump it out. They should wash the inside so that it can be examined to insure that it has no cracks.  Really thinking about it yours is only 4 yrs old. You can wait another year in my mind. Ok, they do not fill it back up, you do by washing and flushing the toilet. And he will want to back his truck up close to the tank if possible. Also I dont know for sure, but even if he does not back the truck up to the tank. I am not so sure I would want my tank to be empty at this time. Ground is saturated with water, I dont know if it is possible that the tank could be floated up in the ground or not. I know that when it floods, that cemeteries near the river will float caskets out of the ground . I would just put this off for a few more months if you are set on doing it this year.

I have also heard that rid-x is possible bad even for your septic system. Seems that nature has it's own way of making things work right. Might of fact in my newbie days I used rid-x and read the box real good. It said it would even eat the grease from frying pans like hamburger grease. Well I learned the hard way that this puts a hard crust on the input section of the tank and refuse will pile on top of it and block the incoming pipe.

This reminds me, I need to work on my air compressor for the 2nd chamber.

thanks for this feedback. I am also a City Boy always lived in and also grew up in a Large City (Berlin / Germany). When I bought the house it was not complete so the System is Brand new and all the ports of the Tank and the Cover are all visible and they will have easy excess to it. I have another one close to the House but I do not think he will need this one. I actually have a Lagoon System due to the area being very rocky (this area / Park Hills used to be a Lead Mining Town) and it would have not be possible to install a drain system. This works well for me and also cuts down on Maintenance I was told. I guess I will check with a long stick to see how deep the slush is to determine if I can wait another year just don't want the sh... coming into my Basement Thanks also for the heads up to wait a while and to have it done when the ground is not so soft any more that is a good idea which I did not think of. Those Trucks I have seen are large and must be very heavy the Tires they have sure are very big so I will wait another few month till June.

thanks again for everybody's response and helpful tips this is much appreciated.

Enjoy your weekend
