Does Philly have any ordnances preventing the possesion of AR-15's? I'll be moving up in July and need to know if i need to make arrangements for my AR's. Thanks.

Either NE Philly or Northampton area.

There's no laws nor ordnances prohibiting residents from owning ARs in Philly. If you have some area to choose from besides Philly - pick it. I've lived in NE Philly for 48 yrs. now, and it just keeps getting worse. If you live in Philly you will pay a 4.2% wage tax and approx. 40% higher auto insurance rate just for the privilige of making your home in this shit hole. Montgomery Co. and much (not all) of BucKs Co. are far better places to live in. As soon as I hit the lottery, I'm moving out.

Living in philly you will not get any class III sign offs. That reason alone warrants living elsewhere.

Unless you know someone.

I know someone...

Lynne Abraham. She and my dad were friends in Overbrook as kids, and he was also a business partner of her husband's.

I've asked her personally, and I still can't get one.

I've been in Center City since 1997.

Don't worry about your AR15s but as been mentioned, forget about any Class 3 signoffs.

Getting your CCW is much much more of a hassle than other counties in PA.  Philly is subject to the same laws as the rest of the Commonwealth but they try to skirt that by making the process as much of a pain in the ass as possible.

For example, you have to pick up your application in person (PM me for a scanned copy, haha), drop off the application in person and pick up your permit in person.  The office is only open from 8-3 on weekdays, which means you have to take time off work, so they are hoping to discourage you by throwing up these administrative hassles.  They will also ask you all sorts of other questions, which are not mentioned in the UFA as criteria for issuance of a CCW (e.g. suspended driver's license).

The CCW office is at 990 Spring Garden Street, across the street from the infamously priced products (and under-educated staff) of Colosimo's Gun Shop.  Go in there to have a laugh at the pricing and the "knowledge" of the staff.  How would you like to pay $900 for a NIB Sig P226?  Me neither ....

If you have any specific questions, PM me.  I don't know the northeast that well, unfortunately.  Not having a car/motorcycle since 1997 has done wonders for my (lack of a) sense of direction.

Thanks for the infor guys. This will be a temporary move. Right around 1 year at most, i think. The wife is from Philly originally, so she knows her way around. Thanks for the info on the CCW as well.

You can download a copy of the CCW permit on the Phila PD web site .

Nice.  I wish they would drop the whole "drop it off in person" and "pick up your permit in person".  When I lived in Chester County, I got my permit in the mail.

City wage tax, 5% tax for the "privilege" of living in the city limits, if you can, chose to live outside the city.

Sure, live outside the city but pay higher taxes in other areas, such as real estate, and school taxes.
Housing is about the same between lower Bucks County and areas in NE Philly. I live in the formerly great NE, and my 2 story twin is priced higher than a house on ground in Levitown. Again, taxes are higher there. Unfortunatly, as a city FF, I must live here.

Well the plans are set. I'll be moving to Philly about mid July. Have to find some new shooting friends now.

Cool.  Where in Philly?  Still the northeast?

Yea still the northeast. Looking forward to a change of scenery though. Not a big city person but its not permanent.
