| I am ready to apply. Are there 2 members that would like to go shooting with me in the near future so I can earn the needed signatures? |
|
Email the club secretary and get a membership packet. Read it. Complete it.
Take look at the club website calendar and pick two matches in shooting venues you like. Go shoot them -- you don't have to be a member to shoot at virtually any match at the club. Meet the match RO's and tell them you need a sponsor. Bring a pen. Get your signatures. Background check. Range tour. Write a check. Shoot. |

I have shot with you, and hung out some. I'll sign your form. :) We should shoot again just to make sure. We should be able to work something up while the kids are in school, if you like. I can get a day off with a little notice. Weekends are all about getting ready for holidays here. |

Let me know if you guys go on a weekday. That is my best time to shoot. If you come to the Hunters Shoot on the 3rd Saturday, we shoot 200, 300, and 600 yards. Details at http://HRshoot.com I will gladly sign off on your app, so long as you don't screw the pooch. I run the event with Del and Digger, and EVERYONE is invited. It is $15 for non-members, and we provide targets. Virtually every event on the calendar is open to the public, usually at a slightly higher fee, but still very reasonable.

When is the next time that will be done on the steel silhouette range? |

What is the current wait list time? There is no wait list. We got rid of that idea a while back. So it takes as long as it takes you to get the reqs done, pass the background test, and take (and pass) the range tour. Prior members who took issue with policies/personnel at RBGC should revisit the rules and talk to current members, not only have we fixed the majority of the issues folks commonly had with RBGC, we have made it easier, and cheaper, to return to the fold. |

Yes, there have been some rule changes, and less expensive to re-join. In fact, so much so, that i have submitted my application, and will be taking the range tour in December. Rich |

I have shot with you, and hung out some. I'll sign your form. :) Do you ever shoot the HP matches? Not in some years. The whole single Dad thing knocked me out of the game. I have shot a few of Ben's clinics over the past year, with my sons, remarried, and my wife will give us kitchen passes to go do that. :) I hear you are tearing up the HP range, here and at Perry. |

Yes, we do try to keep that range clean, as it is only "on loan" from the venue who maintains it... We use the silhouette range when the Hi Power range (200/300/600 yards, uncovered at all shooting positions) is not available, or when the weather is rainy, as it has cover. Use of it is the luck of the weather. Rainy day Saturday morning, I will absolutely gladly use it. Frankly, I prefer shooting paper to see what I hit better, and the targets are much easier to see than the steel under the little bunkers that shadow them. Other than having to use two relays, one to run the pits and one to shoot, the paper targets on the Hi Power are more valuable for developing skills. BTW, if you have not read the NEW rulebook, please do! It has been reduced hugely, and now makes a LOT MORE SENSE. Most of the silliness is totally gone. Common sense rules now replace some of the old, weird stuff. We are real happy with the great job the new Chief Range Safety Officer, Will, and committee, did. And check the calendar for the latest activities, most ALL are OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!! |

Quoted: Do you ever shoot the HP matches? The most FUN is the "100 Yard Reduced" where we shoot a full High Power match, but at 100 yards with reduced size targets. To your eye, the challenge is identical, as the targets are the same size and scoring formula. BUT, there is NO wind to deal with (minimal at 100 yards) and you can shoot it with a .22!! Iron sights are the only requirement. I learned more in those matches than any shooting activity I have ever done. It is half clinic, that they teach positions: offhand, prone, and sitting, as well as the two principles of accuracy, sight picture and trigger control. Excellent instruction that is worth the small fee many times over. And the people who are shooting there are Masters, High Masters, and Distinguished Riflemen, among the riff raff like you and me. The wealth of knowledge is impressive. Plus, it is a FUN match, and you can WIN MONEY! Yes, even if you do not have the highest score, YOU CAN WIN MONEY! Great venue for kids, also. Fourth Saturday every month on MP2. http://rbgc.org/100ydrifle/100YardRifle.htm |

HP is great stuff. I have a great "service" rifle, AR 20" A2 configuration with handle and 1:7 that was made for HP. Plenty of lead on the buttstock... I also have a 20" "match" rifle with custom grip and collapsible buttstock, that has an aperture sight on the front that works GREAT with the round targets we shoot, and is easier on my old eyes. This one has the Mako buttstock that holds an extra 20 round magazine. I load the mag with lead shot and epoxy for extra weight, and even formed the top as a Lead Sled to feed singles if needed... http://www.ar15.com/media/viewFile.html?i=58762 The most FUN is the "100 Yard Reduced" where we shoot a full High Power match, but at 100 yards with reduced size targets. Even stayed for half of a 100 yd match once years ago..... ;) Cthulhu, come on out to the full course anytime. 14DEC is ATC, 15DEC is 3x600. Pretty sure I will be at both. |

I would really like to get back to ATC, but there is just never, ever enough time. I am sure by the time my kids are all old enough to not mind if I am gone on Saturdays, I will need a bloop tube and a magnified aperture. :) |

One of my dad's favorite stories was when Bobby looked at what I was shooting and started a dissertation on how it was garbage and the ammo was garbage and then had to stand there dumbfounded as I managed to crank 2 Xs and a 10 out with the front sight held on the bottom right of the frame. Every time I shoot that rifle it reminds me of those few minutes of time. I can't actually make out what he's lecturing me about anymore, but the cadence and tone are still there. |
