Any date set for this yet? I need to start get things laid out on the schedule.
I've got a HS 30 year reunion on July 26th, so I'm hoping its not on that date. Also, any changes being suggested? I'm kinda thinking "No AP or steel core" on the 25 & 50 yard lines. Less destructive for the reactive targets. |

Florence County Shooting Range. WI Shooting Ranges
Pistol and separate rifle range out to 300 yards. No skeet/clay pigeons allowed. |
|
Florence County Forest Rifle Range
(a) No organized events are allowed without a written permit from the Forestry and Parks Department of Florence County at the Florence County Forest Rifle Range. No competitive meets are allowed. It is pretty difficult to find a range with rules which are conducive to this type of shoot such as Shiocton used to be and Shawano currently is. The other issue is the layout of the range which allows multiple events to take place concurrently. Another is a club house where the food can be kept warm and served. |

I have no issues with Shawano as the location. That range gives us a lot of freedom and "exclusivity" compared to other ranges. Worth the drive and hotel for me. Plus it gives me an excuse to hit the fleet farms and scheels on the drive up and back. It is cost for some poeple. People want to participate but have a hard time dropping $200+ for gas and motel alone. |

Do they allow dueling trees to be brought in? How much of the range will they allow to be reserved at one time for an event? What is the charge per shooter? Quoted:

I totally get why some people may not like the drive. Its far. "Far" depends on where you're coming from, doesn't it? Although I've yet to attend (always something competing for my time that keeps me from going ), as I understand it, present location is close to, and convenient for, those who do all the work setting things up. If it's moved too "far" from those guys, who will take over?

I totally get why some people may not like the drive. Its far. But carpooling helps if you are able and the range REALLY is great for how we use it. It is very nice having a clubhouse! Maybe someone should create a poll to see what works best for everyone? I do believe that july 18th was the date set aside. |

My thoughts on this.
Is if you have a idea for a range that would be more convient for everyone please ask the range operators or board of directors if they would be willing to host this type of event. If so gather more information and bring it to the group of guys have organized it in the last 3 years. Maybe we can move it to a more centeralized location. Maybe you invite that board up to see RN5 and what you are asking them to consider. As far as the distance goes and then hotel, I'm sorry if people feel shawano is out in the sticks but it does work well for what we currently do. Again please feel free to ask your local clubs if they would be willing to host this type of event and get back to me. And I'll leave you with this thought. 3 years ago when the shit it the fan and we found out that Shicton Lake Park range was closed. I stepped up and made phone calls and had us a range the same night. Never would have I thought it would have turned to into the event is has grown to become! |

The committee has decided that the 3rd weekend in July will be set aside for RN this year and for all future dates. That date works out well for Shawano Gun club who currently hosts the shoot. We discussed changing it since every year there are people who can't make it due to other obligations. But we think that no matter the date there will alway be some that it doesn't work for.

Unfortunately, we can't accommodate everyone. As much as we'd like for everybody in the state to come and shoot and have a chance at prizes, it's just impossible to make the shoot work for all.
So far Shawano Gun Club works for us. We've tailored the layout and rules to that range and it works well. Moving the shoot to another range would take a lot more than simple logistics. Quoted:
Why fix what isn't broken? Shawano works great. |

I'd like to expand on this some. The committee is made up of about a half dozen guys. We do all the setup and teardown before, during and after the shoot. Long after everyone has called it a day and is heading home to recover from a ridiculously good time, we're cleaning up, tearing down, and discussing goods and bads to make the next year better. We all live in this area and Shawano Gun Club works.
We know it's a haul for those of you in the southern part of the state, but right now moving from SGC to another club would take a lot more than most people know. Quoted:

Just saying. No you cannot please everyone. That is rule one on doing this type of thing. Yes you guys do all the work. Honestly have you ever asked for others' help? So what is the cost going to be this year? If I can make it I am sure it will be one day. Most people cannot handle me for more than that, nor do they want me around for any longer? If I do go, I hope I can have some fun this time. Not getting to shoot or participate in events much is a real drag. |

I'll try to make it, but I'm heading to a carbine class the next weekend so I doubt I'll have the travel and ammo budget with all the house stuff I've gotta finish up this summer...
If I do, let's get some video of a FA lower hosting my 8.2" 300blk upper doing subsonic mag dumps through the can... |

Sorry I wasn't trying to complain about lack of services. We have never been lacking for help. My point was simply that the guys who do help are local to the Shawano / Fox Valley area which is why it would take more than logistics to move the shoot.
You're always welcome!! Others may not be immune to your rough edges but you've never rubbed me the wrong way. Quoted:

If the date is a go for 19 July, I will be there once again.
And I think its in a good location. I don't think anyone drives as far as me to come to these shoots. If it moved further south I don't know if I would. (Parruthead, I am still trying to work out the details on the Texas deal, I've got a buddy looking into it for me, will let you know soon) |

Make a mini-vacation of it. We should look into the cost of one of the rental cottages on the lake that could be split by ???. (plus there is usually some "free camping" by a generous person assuming you can make sure your tools are unloaded before playing show and tell)

I'm pretty sure nothing like that has ever happened!!
