I'm looking for a range to join in the area.  I live in Northen Baltimore County less that 5 miles from the Pennsylvania line.  I'm looking for ranges with long range facilities and/or least range nazi type restrictions.

What are my options?

Have you tried looking in the Shrewsbury and Glen Rock area? A few years back when my mother was planning on moving up there we stumbled across a pretty nice range. I'm sure some of the locals up there can help you. I wish I knew the name of the club, but I do know there is one up there!

HTH!

Hmmm, I'll have to go obtain a York county phonebook and see what's listed.

You wouldn't by chance live in Freeland Md would you? If so that's where my girlfriend lives. Pretty nice up there, too bad the MD line wasn't a few more miles to the south.

Nope, live in Parkton.  Freeland is only a couple miles away.

There's always North East, MD. Right up I95, exit 100, and about three miles from there.

Only 100 yards, but few restrictions in all. Nice outdoor range. Open every day except only after 4pm on Monday.

Anybody that wants to go let me know. I'm a range officer there and could show you the ropes if you like.

Bring your own target stand. Real estate signs work great when you replace the center with cardboard.

Take care,
Mark

How about the Associated Gun Clubs of Baltimore ranges?  They are just west of Baltimore off I-70.

I've checked them out, and they have a list of rules long enough to fill a book.  And they don't allow rapid fire.

I'm going to try to check out the range at peach bottom and the range in Harrisburg next week.  The Harrisburg range has a nice setup, and very few rules, but the longest range is 100 yards.  The Delta/Peach Bottom range has no info on the web, so I have to go there to see what it's like.

Sounds like North East is a decent place to shoot.  I live in lower Montgomery county.  How long would it take to get there?

I don't belong to any ranges here in Maryland. (Born in Michigan and used the free DNR ranges).  Maybe I should join one.  Hell, my shooting is so bad I think range time should be mandatory in my case.

Somebody can go shooting on my farm. 250 Yard range and no range officers.  No benches either.  Bring a shooting mat or somethin.  It is a harvested bean field.  Oh yeah, i live in whitehall.

Where in Freeland do you live??  I just moved to Freeland...all the way from White Hall :) (a whole 10 min) anyway, her mom has like 15 acres.

Hmm...Where in White Hall?  That's where my parents are that I just moved from. (see above post ^) I have a small range there, that friends come over to shoot skeet and handguns, & sometimes rifles when we feel like annoying the neighbors.

2 pages of rules is 'enough to fill a book'?.  The range rules is four 8.5x11" sheets; one and a half of which show you either how to post targets or how or the specificaitons on building a tareget stand.  Hardly opressive.

And they don't allow rapid fire.

You are allowed to fire as fast as you can, PROVIDING you are hitting the target with every round.

Spray-n-pray & bump firing is not allowed, and  there are legitimate safety reasons for it.
