Thinking about going Down to Rayners for a long range match in April.
Any input on what I can expect? Round count, distances, good times had by all? I will be shooting a SPR 5.56 |

I have never attended but I want to. There's a fair number of posts on the Hide.

Come on out. It's a good time. Ranges are from 235 to 1,000 yards. There are 6 positions with 2 target distances at each. You fire 3 shots at each target distance for a total of 36 rounds for the match. You can have someone spot and call corrections for you of your choice or accept whoever happens to be in the spotter at the time. You will need a scope with target turrets and would be a good idea to have a drop chart printed off from JBM or similar. Most shooters use a bipod and rear bag. There are benches or you may shoot prone. Most positions have different sizes of targets worth different amounts of points depending on how good you are feeling. When you sign in there are 3 squads to sign up on. We rotate around the lower 3 positions and then break for lunch. The Rayner's have food and drinks available for purchase where you sign in at the shop.
I typically RO one squad, so you'd be welcome to shoot with us and introduce yourselves. It's a pretty laid back relaxed type of shooting, but we try to keep things moving. |

Some guys made a vide of the targets a while ago. Some of them have changed a little, but you still get the idea. Here it is in a post on the Sniper's Hide Forum Rayner's steel match
Once you know what's going on, you can shoot on the off weekends for $10 for the day. This is not a drop in anytime place, so call ahead to make sure the range is available. |

I have been to Rayners before to shoot a couple USPSA matches, but never LR rifle. I have not fired the weapon beyond 100 yards. I am working on a drop card. I will be down in April. Just wish it was a little closer. You might need a little more gun for the long shots. Ive seen a 77gr handloaded 556 go 875, beyond that I dont know if it would work. |
