A friend of mine was camping over in eastern Washington with a few buddies. They were planning on doing some coyote hunting while they were camping out. There was another group of people camped close by mostly young guys. The 2 groups started to mingle a bit and one of the guys from the other group noticed that my friend had a couple rifles in his vehicle so he asks him if he is planning on target shooting. My friend says "no, we're gonn'a shoot some coyotes." The young guy says "I'm into coyote hunting too." My friend asks the guy what kind of rifle he uses and the guy says, "I use a No.6 Blue Fin." My friend asks him "what in the hell is a No.6 Blu Fin?"

It turns out that a No.6 Blue Fin is a heavy duty fishing hook used for catching tuna.
Turns out that this group of young guys had a very innovative way of dispatching coyotes. They would hang this No.6 Blue Fin fishing hook from a tree about 6 feet off the ground with some heavy duty fishing line. They would then bait the hook with some chicken meat and when the coyote took the bait and got hooked they would then beat the shit out of it with a baseball bat. .......Thus the Redneck Pinata!

Yeah, it's also great fun to wound elk.  You get to shoot more if you don't actually kill them.

Nope.  Not funny.  Not acceptable.

Wonder if they make a Number Blue Fin hook. You could bait it with granola and beat a liberal left wing hippie with a baseball bat.

Just beat them enough to break their hands so they can't get off the hook, then leave them swinging.

I saw some of those hooks baited-up along the edge of the farmers field where I run my dog. I am glad I got to them before my dog did.
I think the hook method is a legitimate way for a farmer or trapper to deal with coyotes, but the whole piñata thing is pretty inhuman, a .22 is much more effective, and probably less damaging to the pelt.

So WTF does this thread have to do with wounding elk? I was just telling a story that a friend of mine told me about that I thought was pretty funny at the time. I'll admit to having a twisted sense of humor but it has nothing to do with me actually wounding animals. Some of you guys seem to be about as PC as the liberal fuctards I saw in Olympia yesterday!

Unattended hooks by farmers or trappers would be ok but some guys at the ready with bats wouldn't?

This thread should be posted in GD.

It has nothing to do with liberals or conservatives. I personally think that responsible hunters and sportsmen should prefer, no insist, on making clean kills when at all possible and minimizing the suffering of the animal. Yes, sometimes shit happens and the kill is not a clean one or worse, the animal gets away wounded to suffer a prolonged death. But going out of your way to basically torture animals for personal pleasure in this manner just is not right, especially when much more humane methods of culling are readily available. Finding humor in someone else doing it does not make one much better than the actual offender, in my opinion. If that makes me a liberal fucktard in your book, then so be it.

Sounds like a Hate Crime. Or, possibly Thought Crime. I'll inform Big Brother on one of the telescreens. Sounds like someone is a skosh too sensitive about others' humor. Lighten up. Or soon, you'll be finding offense in the sheep jokes. Afterall, a blowup sheep is a lot like a real sheep, thus making any reference thereto offensive in nature. You must now be reprogrammed.

(no mod hat on) Telling and hearing jokes lost it's thrill years ago for me. I skip them in my emails, here, and at most every opportunity if I'm able. Wit and quick humor however is great, IMO. Gotta love that subtle stuff, and those folks with keen senses of humor never get old to me.

(mod hat on again) But it's my belief, that you really gotta DECIDE to be offended by something said, especially a joke.... guess I've always been too lazy to bother... especially if it only offends those without anything better to worry about.

Before I get hate mails... yes I do get it, and yes I'm an ethical hunter.... whatever that might mean to you..... it's only a joke, that's it.

IMs if you want to get personal with eachother (or me) about this.... pretty please, with sugar and gunpowder on top.

Hmmm, I thought it was related more as a statement of fact rather than a hypothetical situation.

At any rate, I'm not deeply offended, just rather disappointed.

I wonder how RedDawg or others felt about Kerry's "joke" about students ending up in Iraq if they did not get a proper education.

"Cruelty to Animals: Most children can be cruel to animals, such as pulling the legs off of spiders, but future serial killers often kill larger animals, like dogs and cats, and frequently for their solitary enjoyment rather than to impress peers." Call it being liberal but a humane kill is moral issue granted it was said as a joke but the fact is that there are still people doing it and thats messed up.

I don't know. Knowing RD posts jokes from time to time, I made the assumption it was meant in jest. (I only skimmed it.... closest I've come to actually reading one of his jokes/closed-end-threads)

In the case of JKs "joke", or any other quoted official or celebrity that makes headlines with soundbites, I'm pretty quick to dismiss it all without much thought. I really don't care what they think or have to say... don't know them personally, and am not engaged in any sort of debate with them.... it'd be a waste of my time to ponder their meanings or intent. (though I did listen long enough to make a decision not to listen)

Are Rosie, Barb and The Donald still going at it? Nope, don't give a shit.... they're making money for the people who care about ratings and what-not..... I won't be recieveing a check of my own if I listen. Fox news gets the mute button everytime they bring that trash up.

Trash in, trash out. Easy

And what about trapping that has been going on for hundreds of years. Most of the time its a slow painful death for the critter. So the fish hook idea does not sound all that bad I have heard of farmers using that technique as a kid. I wish I would have tried it. Whats worse hooking a coyote or losing a few calves a week.

There's nothing "touchy feely" in my response. I know about the necessity to control coyotes and other animals, however that does not justify any humor found in what is unnecessary suffering.

Hooking an animal just because one gets bored with shooting them is not justified, nor is comparing a humans' actions with the animal kingdom...unless you *are* comparing yourself to an animal.

Along with hound hunting of bear and cougar, IIRC. Now people are outraged because fluffy got ate by a big bad mountain lion. To make matters worse, the state now kills "problem" animals by the same means outlawed by the liberals. The PETA proponents cannot see the forrest because there are too many trees in the way.

It's one thing when clubbing, trapping, or user bears/hounds are the only practical methods of hunting. It's quite another to inflict unnecessary suffering simply for personal pleasure. I did not realize that cruelty and sadism were traits of good old boys and hard core conservatives.

Inhumanity is it's own subject isn't it? It's always been with us, and will be for as long as mankind is around. Throwing that tag at hunters or good ol' boys alone, in whatever context, is as silly as lableing the entire west side of WA as 100% liberal.

There's some sick folks out there, in every walk of life. Targeting any group or stereotype for the actions (or words) of a few, is shortsighted IMO.

Dunno, but it seems like this argument is entirely circular. Where can it go? What will it prove? Who's gonna win? What will it change?

Parents will still leave their children, politicians will still lie, and there will always be crimes committed...etc... sometimes. Bad folks do bad things.
