A couple of us in the office were told on Friday we had been granted voluntary redundancy.  I'm thinking "months notice and a wedge of cash" and nice lie-ins these cold winter mornings but I was told I've got 12 weeks notice which takes me until the end of February.   At the moment not seen anything in writing and not sure of the position on statutory redundancy pay as I was due to retire the third week of March anyway.

Whatever happens I'm in a better position than those in the organisation, including my manager, facing compulsory redundancy, I've no mortgage, or other debts.

Yep, 12 weeks, that's it. They call it a consultancy period or something.

Redundancy pay will probably be statutory, although I can't remember what that equates too.

isn't statutory a weeks pay for every year served?

My colleague was told she has to work until Easter, like me she really wants out now.  In theory I'm entitled to 30 weeks pay but as I've only got 3 weeks left to work after I'm made redundant I'm wondering if I will get the full amount?  Nice work if you can get it and an incentive to behave for the remaining 36 days (3 days a week for the next 12 weeks) I'm going to have to turn up to the office.

I think I can feel my bad back starting again

It's 1.5 weeks if you're over 40

a weeks pay for every year up to a maximum of 20 years or a week and a half for every year over the age of 41 years old ie in my case 30 weeks pay.

Wouldn't that mean that if they didn't make you redundant, and you retire anyway, they wouldn't have to pay the 30 weeks salary?

90 days collective consultancy - required if more that 100 people in the organisation are impacted.
You should also have 28 days individual consultancy. This **can** take place during the above 90 days.

Not applicable in this case, probably only about 30 fewer posts in the new structure and 17 of us have volunteered to go. The 12 weeks is a contractual notice period based on length of service.

Whenever I've been made redundant (3 times so far!), I've never been expected to work the consultancy period - worth looking into whether you are expected to

I am currently working though the consultancy period. It was explained to me that during that time I am not actually redundant and that at the end of the 90 days they then tell you if you are and give you your expected termination of service date.

Now got it in writing, notice period starts this Monday, last working day 25th February and statutory payout of 30 weeks pay.  Normal retirement date would have been 18th March in any case with no payout so I think a good deal all round

I've got a spare slot for a .22LR, what to buy is the question?
