I've got a Bushmaster M17 on the way from a trade.  I've looked at the MD law defining a "regulated firearm" and as near as I can tell, it shouldn't be classified as one.  It's not a copy of any of the firearms listed and I can't find in the code where they're defined by features (like the Federal AWB).

Am I missing something, or should this be an over the counter transfer?

<edit> Or would this be covered under the generic "Bushmaster semi-auto rifle"?

Just guessing that any dealer not looking forward to a visit by the MD state police would treat it as regulated- doesn't really hurt them to do so.  YMMV.

There was a "Bushmaster assault rifle" that the law is actually referring to, it sorta looked like a Galil.

Give the MD state police a call and ask, they should be able to tell you right off the bat if its a regulated weapon or not.  I've never heard of HBAR Bushmasters being considered sporting, but then I've never heard of all Bushmasters being required to have paperwork done due to the "Bushmaster semiauto rifle" part.
