Hi all,
Just ordered a .45 ACP Taurus today. I was wondering if any of you ex-pistol shooters know what's the best load is for them. I was looking for something with less recoil than my .44 mag for the turning targets. Regards Chris |

I used to get good results in .45 ACP with 5.8gn N340, 3.5gn N310, or 7gn HS-6 all using a 230gn cast round nose bullet.
I used Alliant powders as well but would have to dig out some of my old load data, will have a look if you can tell me which powder you have or plan to use. One point to watch when using small charges of fast powder in LBRs is that the gasses have to expand into the volume of 12" of barrel not 4 or 5" like in the old days - you must ensure that there is more than enough to get the bullet out the barrel, and with pleanty to spare! Hope this helps. |

I hate Mark's ambivalence - just get off the fence! |

Try here. It's where I get/got most of my .45acp reloading info from.
Brian Enos forum I use straight Clays with Federal primers and Frontier 230grn TMJ. Works for me!! |

Looks like I'm going to make a batch of .45acp then . You're not just going to make a few up and test them but instead take the word of some random peeps on the internet? Go right ahead
No, what I should have said is. I will make a box of 100 split into batches of 20 rounds. 20 rounds of the lowest powder amount and each other 20 work my way up to just under highest. I have checked in a friends reload manual so have the maximum stated powder info so wont go above that. Then I can test which groups best. I am stupid but not stupid enough to make up 500 and find they group like a 1788 blunderbuss |
