Anyone know a source in the Birmingham area for Remington .22LR Golden Bullet bulk packs?
I just picked up an Advantage Arms .22LR upper for my Glock 19. It is not recommended for Federal 550 bulk pack, and indeed it had a lot of FTE and some FTF when I tried it. It got a little better after a couple hundred rounds and a lot of lube, but it was still unacceptable for practice. A number of people have said Remington Golden Bullets 550 bulk pack work well, but I have never seen them locally. Anyone have any idea if they are sold locally? Or any other local ammo that will work well? Thanks! |

Always get mine at wally world, seem to work the best of all the bulks in the conversions I've tried em in All the Bham area Wal-Marts I have been in have only had Federal 550 bulk pack or Winchester bulk pack. One, I think it was Irondale, had Federal auto match. Perhaps different brands are stocked regionally. |

I'm likely going to head out there to the FOP Range tomorrow in the afternoon and I have 800 rounds of the 40 grain individually boxed Golden Bullets I could sell. These are different than the 36 grain hollowpoint bulk rounds that you'd find at Academy or Walmart if they ever get them in stock. Email me if you're interested.
I found this also: http://www.advantagearms.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=AASOS&Category_Code=GLKRecommended I had the same G19 conversion kit for awhile. I found that Federal bulk, Federal Champion, Federal Auto Match, American Eagle, Winchester 36 grain bulk did not cycle at all. What did work for me was Winchester Super X 40 grain, Remington 36 grain bulk Golden Bullets, and Remington 40 grain Golden Bullets. I haven't tried CCI Minimags in the Glock 19 conversion I had before I sold it, but I can say that they are just as snappy as the Remington Golden Bullets, so I'd be that they'd work as well. Pretty much any Walmart should have them. I typically buy them at the Bessemer Walmart off exit 108 on the 20/59 on the way to the range. They were $6.47 per 100. |

ditto on the last poster's experience...I have had the G19 and G17 Advantage conversions for several years, both mine run flawlessly with golden bullets (bulk pack or solids) and they run with nothing else...the manufacturer's admonition to use only those is accurate and true...
I picked some rem gold solids up at both Acadamey and Bass Pro in the past, and rem gold HP's at wallyworld in the bulk packs, they all run like a purple striped ape, but the minute I put any sort of federal or CCI stuff in either one, they are single shot pistols...go figure.. |

Thanks for the recommendations. I have picked up a bunch of different types of .22LR to try, just for the heck of it - Winchester Super X (even though AA says not to use any Winchester), Remington Target, CCI Minimag, all at Academy.
I also ordered online some Aguila, Remington Golden Bullets 36 and 40 grain, and a couple other types I forget now. I even got inspired to try a box of the Aguila .22LR with no propellant, only primer. Not for the AA kit, of course. |
