Gents,

Need a little assistance with a reputable gunsmith in the Anchorage area who does good work and listens to his customer. I used to take the work I couldn't do myself to Wild West, but they've let deadlines slip, charged more than they quoted, failed to do work as agreed upon. Other gunsmiths that I've used in the past 30 years have moved on or are out of business.

I'm looking to have an AR front sight milled down (shortened) and silver soldered/welded to a Remington 870 barrel in place of the front bead sight. I'm going to need to have it set up so the sight works with a STS-870 rig with an BUIS co-witnessing with an Aimpoint.

This would create a barrel that looks much like this:

I've seen these done on other board, but am at a loss as to a gunsmith who has the capabilities and the talent to do the work.

Any recommendations you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Looks cool; no clue who locally could do it though.  What about sending it out of state?  Did you ask the owner of the pic who did his?

That looks like the FN TPS shotgun that comes that way

The SGN in the pic is a TPS. I have an 870 that I plan on giving my youngest as a BOG and want to have the work done and ready for him by August. I haven't found a decent sight like the one on the TPS that I can use on the 870. I actually got the idea from another gent's post on another board where he had his local gunsmith cannibalize an AR FSB and mount it onto the SGN barrel. I believe he silver soldered it, but perhaps it was welded. Nonetheless, it would make a nice option to beat a simple bead.

I remember using a gent name Vince Bauldauff (I believe that's how he spelled his name), but couldn't find him in the book. That was 20 years ago. I really want to avoid Wild West. Both my brother and I have had less than positive experiences with both their front office and the gents in the back.

Yep, I will NEVER take anything to them.  I'd rather spend 2x as much (not likely) and send it out of state

Your idea is great though; that shotty is bad ass!

If you are going with the out of state route you should check with Hans Vang from Vang Comp, he does impressive work and is a top notch guy

He has been up here several times to offer personal service to the local PDs, even during the winter months.

A possible option that may work for you .
Get ahold of Derek in the EE and grab one of thee CAA shotgun barrel rails .
You could than set one of the short rail mount front sights on there and it should work with the SST rail .
And probably save you a ton of coin .

Gents, thanks for the advice. Got your e-mail Matt.

Finally (!) found the images I was looking for. Too many Apple laptops at work and at home.

Here's the effect I was looking for:

I'll search out the 'smith in Palmer and check out some other leads. Since this one's going to my youngest behind the lines in Rhode Island, I'll not have much time between finishing it and flying to meet him with it. I'll try to get pics and some action shots as well.
