It's not a nut

As far as I know JBowles owns the copyright and Ar15.Com has license to it.

From a strictly legal standpoint that isn't true at all.

The owner of a copyright has has, among other rights,  the exclusive rights to do and to authorize reproduction of the copyrighted work and to prepare derivative works based upon the copyrighted work.

I didn't think it would take long for that to come out. Copywrite infringment is quite serious.

BTW Phil I don't see the decals on sale in the store?????

Then for what it's worth Duffboy, you have two options.

1) Just go make the hat, keep your mouth shut about it, don't post pictures, of it. And don't Make them for other people or try to sell them.  And no one will probably know

2) IM or email JBowles, if he is the one with the copyright, and ask his permission to use it.  Inform him this is a personal Item and you will not be mass producing, selling, or making any profit from his logo.  I would be willing to bet he would be ok with it.

** Personally, I think your best bet is go with # 2.  Unfortunately if you choose # 1 and go to an LCR, a WAC show, or anywhere that another ARFCOMer is, someone MIGHT see it, and decide to be (IMHO) a prick and report you to JBowles who may or may not press the issue.  Although, all he can do is send you a cease and desist.  If caught wearing it a second time and someone else reports you THEN you could be facing charges.

My dog has a spot that looks like a Chevy emblem.  I better have him put down before I get sued.

Good grief.

Better yet I'd say draw your own and just change it a little. Like put the firing pin hole in it.
