You have over 4000 posts on a website dedicated to a sport utility rifle, live in NY, and have no idea what rifles don't have to be registered?

Go to a gun shop.  If it's on the shelf you can buy it.

Has the muzzle brake on the end. Dunno if they came out with a version for NY without the muzzle brake.
On the standard M1A you can replace the standard FS with a ban state version. Can't do that with the SOCOM

I thought Springfield made a nys compliant "Scout" rifle... I dont know the specs however, sorry.

you cannot register anything other then a handgun that is on your permit....the registry "closed"  2 years ago.

Good to know, was unaware of that.
I will keep that in mind for anyone asking about that option in the future!

You mean the same question that makes up half of this HTFs posts?

I remember this used to be a fun forum, now it's the same stupid legal questions THAT ARE ALL ANSWERED IN THE STICKY.

I have heard rumors that you can still register stuff regardless of the law, don't know if that is true.

Yeah I am aware of the NY variants for the standard M1A but I was unaware of the SOCOM variant.
I appreciate the info as I can pass that along to folks looking to buy one

I hadn't actually reviewed the sticky in some time, so if it's there, my apologies.
Yes I know what you mean about the forum changing.
Someone posted a thread a while ago about the other FTF's being about group meets etc and ours tends to focus on how to stay out of jail with your latest purchase. Sad state of affairs

As I recall from back when unSAFE was passed, there was a clause that one could be given thirty days to register if found in possession of an unregistered weapon and it was determined the lack of registration was not willful. Good luck with that...

You could still transfer & register any gun that meets the SAFE definition of assault weapon that's over 50 years old (and its over 50 year old magazines).
Like old early import FN FAL's , M1 carbines with the bayonet lug, I would even think AR15's born before 1967 would be GTG, has anyone tried this?
