I heard this passed on the ballot yesterday. You used to could have up to 50 roosters but now you're limited to no more than 7. That's too bad. I guess you'll miss the choruses of cocks crowing in the mornings.

Most of my childhood in suburban Orange County I heard a rooster crowing every morning (and often at other times). One of our neighbors had one. I never found out who. A few years after I left home some neighbor showed up at my parents' house and asked my father if he would help "do something" about the noisy bird. My father couldn't believe his ears. The rooster had been there for almost 20 years and no one cared. It was just a rooster, it wasn't as if it was a constantly barking dog or an airplane taking off or anything like that. My father told the guy to go pound sand. Not very neighborly, perhaps, but he wasn't going to help "do something" about a non-problem. |

I don't live in that county so the ban doesn't affect me, but I'm glad for the residents who have been putting up with the noise. My neighbor used to have a few roosters in his backyard. It got old quick hearing those birds crowing at 4 in the morning. The roosters were just five yards from my window so they woke me up almost every morning. I complained to code enforcement several times, but nothing ever happened. Then one day they were gone. No, I didn't shoot them... |

At least the people got to vote on it. I'd like to get the police to actually fine the barking dogs that never freaking take a break longer than it takes to eat a bite of food. The one on the right side even barks while taking a crap. I've spent over $200 on Bark Blasters and things have gotten better. The calls to city code enforcement and the letters to my city rep didn't work. |
