| Haven't been there in years. Wife wants to go in March for our anniversary, so I need recommendations on where to stay and where to eat. |
| I like either of the Drury Inns. I think the smaller one of the two is a little more quiet. For TexMex Casa Rio is very good and I second the suggestion for Shiloh/s. They have a great breakfast (if you don't eat in the hotel) and their Jagger schnitzel is outstanding. |

Pony up and break out the credit card for this place. The Deluxe Balcony King suites are the ONLY option for romance....though all of the rooms are top-quality, as is the staff and restaurant and valet service. Right on the river and its the place were my wife and I actually fell so far in love, we've been together since.

Mi Tierra or the other Mexican restaurant in the Mexican Market would definitely be on my list of places to eat. They are both owned by the same family. Both GTG.
If you have the time I'd head to the east and eat BBQ at City Market in Luling or one of the 4 BBQ Joints in Lockhart. Smitty's, Kreuz's Market, and Black's get most of the fame but Chisholm Trail is top notch too. Again time permitting a visit to the Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner for some beer samples is a good pastime. Hope y'all enjoy your trip. |
| La Mansion is supposed to be very nice and romantic. I haven't stayed there so can't vouch for it. It's on the expensive side. I see several people recommending Casa Rio. I ate there once. To me, it was only mediocre and a bit overpriced. Granted, that was on our honeymoon almost 24 years ago so it may have changed. For a nice breakfast in a romantic spot try the Guenther House. Beautiful grounds and good food. |

There IS a Valencia in California somewhere... Edit. And apparently, I DID FUBAR the link. Cut me some slack, guys! San Jose/San Antonio do look alot alike.....grammaticaly speaking.

I was just there last weekend .. .I stayed at the Sheraton Gunter 205 east houston .. to me centrally located to everything down town I could walk everywhere in less then 15 minutes.
The La Mansion by Omni on the river walk looked nice ran into some ghost hunters at 3 am as we were walking some friends back to their room after being out . ( if you were their last weekend my apologies for the noise in the hallway ) A few restaurants on the river walk say they are 24/7 but I ended doing the short walk to Market square for breakfast ( parking SUCKS ) |

I like the Crockett Hotel across from the Alamo. Looks kind of shabby on the outside but inside is nice. Very convenient. Food...Mi Tierra, Tomatillo's, Schilo's, Little Rhein Steak House. If it was just me I would choose the Crockett, but my wife wants to be on the river. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look into the restaurants you suggested. |

What's your budget? It's an anniversary, so are you wanting luxury, location, or both? My preference is the Hilton Palacio del Rio. The location is superb and the hotel is good enough for me, but may not be nice enough for you depending on your expectations. The one time I stayed in a Hilton it was nice. This one seems to be more what I am looking for. Thanks for the heads up. |
