"It has now been revealed that the Republican presidential candidate, and my generational soul mate, Mitt Romney, also made a choice about whether to serve his country. At the time, Mormons were one of the few religious groups given deferments from military service as a matter of course. Mormons are required to proselytize throughout the world, and in 1968, young Romney went to Paris and the beaches of France, while men like me went to the jungles of Vietnam. Romney has five military-age sons, not one of whom has ever served in any branch of the military.
Before Romney went to France, however, he participated in a few protests. His protests were in support of the Vietnam War. Yet he did not feel deeply enough about that war to put his own body and soul on the line in support of America.
What does this say about this would-be president/commander-in-chief? That he would eagerly "support our troops," while avoiding combat for himself and his children? Or is it simply that (as was the case back in the '60s) rich kids just didn't go to war?
Willard Mitt Romney has been a fraud and a hypocrite for his entire adult life."

Not everyone can serve their country in the military.

Abe Lincoln never enlisted,  nor did Teddy Roosevelt until later in life.

I admire folks who serve in that capacity,  but,  someone has to dig ditches at home and clean dishes.
That's how I paid my way through college and I am not ashamed.

The myth about Mormons being against military service has been busted many times over.

Out of curiousity, I notice the OP's profile is listed as TX and am wondering why post in the MN HTF?

Maybe I should go to all the other HTFs and see if Northbilly has similar posts there...

Nope.  After a quick survey of a few other HTFs, this looks like the only HTF where this has been posted.

You can go ahead and vote Ron Paul but he isn't going to win this election and it guarantees President Obama a second term.  Romney is better than Obama for 4 more years with no voters to answer to which gives him much more unilateral latitude like he did with that amnesty stunt.

And as far as Vietnam goes - like I said, President Obama was of military age and did not serve and obviously has ties with those far less American than Romney.  You like Ron Paul a lot, GREAT but he isn't going to win and Romney is better than 4 more years of 0.

He's not on the ballot.  I would strongly recommend voting for someone who's actually on the ballot before resorting to writing someone in.  That's my rule.  But do as you wish.

Mitt Romney spent his 20's doing missonary work for his religon (his not mine)
Ron Paul served in the air force as a medical officer ......gynecologist
Gary Johnson was 18 in 1971 and seemed to spend his time in college
and the current president, I would guess spent his time smoking dope in the dorm room

vote for who you want to, but i think logic tells us a vote for anyone other than romney is a vote for obama

Mitt Romney at least displayed his religious conviction and always has been deeply involved with his faith.  Not that military service means diddly squat as far as being a good CIC, but Obama didn't serve either (or Clinton).  I fail to see where the argument that his sons didn't serve has any relevance whatsoever; his sons are adults and have made that choice themselves.

What exactly about Romney receiving a deferment for his faith makes you sick? Your article even states that he

participated in protests in support of the war. IMO there is nothing in what you've posted here about Romney

that's sickening and thus you're also doing a very poor job of feigning outrage.

Then the Chicago Jesus' actions should make you violently ill

Half of zero's cabinet belongs in Federal Prison, the other half needs to be sent packing

Do remember zero's Supreme Court nominee's? They make ginsberg look like a Barry Goldwater Conservative.

You talk about the Troop's, hell your guy in charge right now uses the Military for personal and political gain, or have you not seen that?  Oh wait I almost forget, Chicago Jesus didn't serve either

Oh wait hold the press he just let 4 Americans die in Lybia on 11SEP2012 or are your ears deaf to that?

Then instead of being a Leader he passes it off on a video that no one had seen and to this day still wont admit to anything, talk about taking cowards way out.

Now take a look at what is going on out in New York and New Jersey now if you want to talk about frauds there is one going on out there right underneath your nose. where is your outrage over that?

Shit in New Jersey you need a union card to pitch in help out, fuck that

You vote for who you want, but be careful what you wish for

Last word of this subject from me -

I did not write the post, I came across it and posted it here on the MN site - I thought perhaps somebody else would find this disturbing - its apparent that no one on this board sees any issue with Mitt Romney's actions during the Vietnam War -  I guess that was then and this is now.

I can respect your opinions but I do not agree with them.

Logic?  Logic says that only an actual vote for Obama is a vote for Obama.  Otherwise, it's a vote for the person whose name is next to the oval.

OK my mistake, let me be a little clearer. Logic would tell us that a vote for anyone other than Romney, as imperfect as he is, increases the chance of obama being re-elected and instituting his crushing anti-gun policies.

Yeah, the problem is, Romney is so "imperfect" (excuses, excuses) that he promises other crushing anti-gun policies.

What other crushing anti-gun policies is he promising?  Far less likely him doing something than Obama, pull your head out and realize not voting for Romney is ensuring an Obama victory.

I don't plan on voting for Ron Paul, dumbass.

But I'll tell you what I'm going to do.  Rather than continue this thread and permit you a forum for further self-indulgent machismo and bravado, I'm going to sit back and watch what happens over the next 6-12 months.  Let's say Romney wins.  How much do you want to bet that you'll be back in 6-12 months following his inaugeration bitching nonstop about him straying off the reservation?

"We had NO idea he would do THIS!"  "I didn't sign up for THAT!"  "He can't DO this to us!"

...and other things like that will be the order of the day...at leasty for those who can take ownership for their actions.  Other will deny anything's wrong at all, yet harbor the same sentiments.

Just watch.  It's going to happen again because you don't learn.
