And after that, "The Eyes of Texas". I loved that show, and Ron did it well. Just a little trivia about Ron, and how long he's been in the business. He was a television reporter on scene at the Texas City Explosion back in the late 40's, when the cargo ship loaded with ammonium nitrate exploded and basically destroyed the city. There's black and white footage of his brodcast(s) with the ship burning in the background. The man was around for a long time. Sad to hear of his passing.... |

Very Sad. Always like him. Vicky and I saw he and his wife about a year ago at the Coushatta Casino in La. He seemed ok. They were eating breakfast right by us and he still had that great voice when he ordered his breakfast. They also were playing slots nearby. Wish I would have said something to him, but, I tend to let "stars" enjoy not being messed with. I grew up watching him and good ole Marvin Zindler...that's two in less than a year from the Houston Media Market. Dave Ward ain't no spring chicken.. |
Texas city was 1947 that would have made him 11 at the time? My dad was there fresh corpman from ww2 and student at U of H at the time. |
Yes, I guess the film I saw must have been done later. He looked to be in his early 20's at the time. I think it was included in an old TV series episode of "Survival". It was all in black and white, and I just remember how young Stone was in the film. |
Slime in the ice machine! I grew up watching them too. Ken Kahltof is up here in DFW now. Stone wrote a book about the Texas City explosion. I had an aunt that was a doctor that did triage there. |
I think you are remembering the Mykawa derailment and explosion. I knew another newsman (Dan Hardy, R.I.P. |
My Grand Dad was a security guard on the dock when she blew. It took his guard shack away and he walked out without a scratch.
