I have an early ruger mkii 22/45 that I’d like to convert to accept 1911 grips. Picked up a spare frame in case I screw it up, but would like to borrow a later mkiii 22/45 grip that is oem setup for 1911 grips as a template. I have most if the necessary references, just would feel a bit more comfortable having a physical reference for dimensions, and would make it easier to use cots grips for the mkiii instead of modifying 1911 gripe Anyone in southeast Michigan area (Wayne, Oakland, macomb, st Clair, lapeer, genesee, lapeer and nearby, have mkiii grip I can borrow as a template? |
I thought I might help when I clicked the thread, but I have the same one you have.  Guy at my LGS says someone makes a kit, with templates, screws, and all for doing what you describe. I'll see if I can find it. My boy loves mine, so I'm just keeping an eye out for a decent deal on one that already does that, and just giving the one I have to him. |

I actually picked up a mark 3 r/p frame, thinking it'd be a straight swap, but my upper is extremely tight in the attachment area; the mkii 22/45s had various levels of peening here, and mine is on the tighter end of tolerance and didn't want to modify the frame or the upper. It was a stripped so I threw on a mkii hammer, bushing and sear so will pobably sell that once I fit the grips to my spare mkii frame, which I'll probably also sell because I'm fickle, and my class III dealer is giving me a screaming deal on mkii integral I've always wanted @gearjammer351 feel free to IM me if you are looking for a frame, I'll send you some pics of both the modified mkii once the grips are here and fitted |
