I sent this question to Midwest Industries since I have had them do a transfer for me before, but I am sure they are busy and I may get a faster answer here.
I am looking to get a Pac-Lite receiver/barrel assembly for a MKIII. My question is does WI consider this a handgun or not? I know it has to be transferred through an FFL because it is the part that has the S/N, but since it is just a receiver and not a full handgun, will there still be a 48 hour wait before I can take it home? |
| Thanks Jake, that is what I thought as well, I just wanted to find out what others thought before I ordered it. I really hoped the legislature would change the 48 hour waiting period, at least for Concealed Carry Permit holders, but it does not look like that will be done now. |

Quoted:
It is the actual pistol since the serial number is attached. The rest is irrelevant. It is the actual "firearm" because the serial number is on it. The rest is very relevant. A bare receiver is an "other" even if it can only be built into a pistol. In this case, IMHO, it will be treated like a pistol because it has a short barrel attached to the receiver and no stock. |

Not disagreeing with you because I know that's the way it is with AR's and T/C receivers but what about something like a Remington M700 that you buy as an action only (brand new from Brownells - never made into a gun) from what I understood you can not make it into a pistol (like an XP100) even though it's never been a rifle? |

Yes, another example of our ridiculous regulations/bureaucracy. I have Ruger's but my friend has Browning buckmark. They put serial no on frame. he can order barrel assemblies with no paperwork...
All it comes down to was where the manufacturer puts the serial no ( traceable part).... |
