SB25 OUT OF COMMITTEE!

Senate Bill 25, sponsored by pro-gun champion Sen. Jim Dyer, which would pre-empt local governments from enacting firearms laws more restrictive than state laws, passed out of committee at Judiciary Committee hearings on Monday, January 13, 2003.  CSSA representatives were in attendance at the hearing to provide testimony in support of the bill.  Voting for the bill were pro-gun Republican Senators Jim Dyer, Mark Hillman, John Evans and Ken Arnold.  Voting against the bill were anti-gun Democrat Senators Ken Gordon, Dan Grossman and Sue Windels.  The bill now goes to the Senate floor for debate and vote.  Your hard work to return control of the State Senate to pro-gun supporters is already bearing fruit!

THIS BILL IS AN EXCELLENT CURB ON RESTRICTIVE LOCAL GUN BANS/REGULATIONS, AND IT CAN PASS IF WE DO OUR PART.

The Rocky Mountain News reports that this bill has too many enemies to get through the General Assembly--anti-gun forces are linking up with Metro area municipal officials, including police chiefs, to fight this bill.  LET'S PROVE THEM WRONG!  TO DO SO, IT IS VITAL FOR COLORADO GUN OWNERS TO SOUND OFF IN THEIR SUPPORT OF THIS LEGISLATION.

CALL AND WRITE YOUR STATE SENATOR TODAY AND TELL HIM/HER TO VOTE YES ON SENATE BILL 25.  THE LINKS BELOW WILL GIVE YOU CONTACT INFORMATION FOR YOUR SENATOR.

If you know who your senator is, access the Colorado General Assembly directory at:

I haven't read the actual text of this bill yet, but it seems to be a step in the right direction.
A patchwork of gun laws doesn't benefit anybody in this state.

If Bill Ritter is against it, though, I would probably support it. That's a pretty safe bet.

SB 25, uniformity of firearms law, aka preemption, passed Senate
Judiciary by the usual party line vote, 4-3, just like it would have
lost with the Dems on a party line vote last year. What's new?

Well, what's new is that this bill scares the crap out of the home
rule empires. It's not the gun laws issue, but rather the attempt by
the legislature to set precedent that when it comes to issues of
statewide and mixed statewide/local concern, the legislature has not
only the power but the WILL to assert it's constitutional supremacy.
There is simply no doubt that SB 25 is constitutional.

However, the cities are believers that if you say the earth is flat
often enough, or to use their language: home rule, local control,
home rule, local control, home rule, local control, that this will
scare away the bogeyman of state control.

So, that's all they had to say today: the sky is falling, we won't be
able to protect our residents. When asked how, they were really short
on evidence, so back to the cry: home rule, local control, home rule,
local control, home rule, local control.  It's like listening to wind
up dolls. Clearly, the cities have no real case for complaint; it's
simply a power struggle of constitutional proportions. We just are
doing it too well and the cities are just getting more strident with
nonsensical rhetoric. I've not been impressed with the news coverage.

So, congrats to us for round one; now call your senators and tell
them to pass SB 25 just as it is coming from Judiciary; NO
AMENDMENTS~

Thanks for the heads up Lancelot.

But the link to find your senator doesn't work, or at least I'm getting 404 Errors from it.

And I disremember what district I live in. 13th, I think.

duuuhhh. Jack Taylor - 8th Dist.
