I originally sent in under a trust and just got my letter back stating it can't be done using trust but also had some things highlighted. Any weapon that you sbr still has to be minimum of 26" in length? This is what the ATF sent me back on my application, how can you sbr a Kriss or ps90 they both come in under 26". I thought that was only for the re-enact or portion.

Does every gun you sbr have to be a minimum of 26"???  I am going to my Cleo next week to get papers signed.

I'm not sure as to your question, but I'm waiting on my rejection letter at present, just wondered if they included the forms you needed to re-submit on the individual route? Also, did you lose your place in line?

Didn't send any replacement papers and looks like they gave me 30 days. My question was does every gun have to be at least 26" overall length? I thought it read that was only for re-enactors. I am trying to sbr a ar with 7.5" barrel  and it will be below 26" and a kriss that will come in at 24.5" if the 26" is the overall length I might as well not take the time and money to proceed. Anything I would want sbr'ed will be under 26".

(7) A person possessing a rifle with a barrel or
barrels less than 16 inches in length if:

(A) the person
has been issued a Curios and Relics license from the U.S.
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives;

OR

(B)the person is an active member of a bona fide, nationally
recognized military re-enacting group and the modification
is required and necessary to accurately portray the weapon
for historical re-enactment purposes; the re-enactor is in
possession of a valid and current re-enacting group
membership credential;

AND the overall length of the weapon
as modified is not less than 26 inches.

26" requirement applies to every SBR in IL as far as I know

Could you do something similar to an AR with a 14.5" barrel with something pinned on to make it 16"?

Has any interpretation been issued under IL law as to whether the 26" OAL would need to be measured with the stock collapsed or extended.   In other words, can an IL AR-15 SBR be less than 26" with the stock collapsed as long as it is 26" or greater with the stock extended?

Everything I've read says overall length is measured from end with stock fully extended to end of barrel.  Can't measure to end of flash hider unless it's pinned and welded.  At least that's what google shows...

That is how you measure, but is the 26" minimum for c&r holders, if so it doesn't help me with the guns I want to sbr they are all to short. There seems to be people on both sides it has to be 26" and some that say that only counts for re-enactors.

Everything I have read on the sbr minimum length only pertains to reenactors; NOT C&R holders.

On a thread on illinoiscarry; Todd Vandermyde (I think he is the guy that got the c&r provision in the bill) said that the overall min. length of 26 in. only applies to bona fied reenactors.

Here is the link to the discussion; his post is #82:

I thought this was the case but the batfe sent my app back with a note had to be 26" minimum. I posted the question on I'll carry  and got this response from Todd Vandermyde.

Federal law requires a 26" OAL measured with the stock extended or unfolded.

I think something under 26" would be an AOW and that is a while nother issue, but I will call ATF

So I'm more confused now.

Now I'm confused too.

Give an update when you can.

I'm not confused anymore, batfe says that because the way the law was written that they will not approve anything under 26" at this time.
