I just placed an order for a 10.5" LWRC piston rifle. It will 12-14 weeks before it is built  . What paperwork do I need (both state and fed) to be able to receive an SBR?

The complete short barreled rifle will transfer on a federal "Form 4". If you ordered a complete rifle, it seems you would have done this through a C-III dealer, who should provide the forms and fingerprint cards and guide you through the process when the rifle arrives at his shop and the serial number becomes available. The process: You will need to get fingerprints and a passport-style photo and submit these with the completed Form 4 to the state police. The MSP will conduct a background check and sign off on the "CLEO" space on the Form 4. Once you have the MSP "not-disapproval", you will forward the entire package to the BATFE (possibly through your dealer), with a check for $200, for their own background check and processing of your "tax payment" and attach the photo to the form. They will return this complete/approved form to your dealer, who will complete the transfer info with you and run an NICS/4473 to go with it. |
