I see the MO SBR process on the site but I'm new to this I first have to get a FFL license then submit for my SBR correct.  What does it mean if I get a FFL does it mean the ATF can come in when ever they want?  Do I put myself on some type of list where I'm watched?  Is it worth it?  I really do want to build an SBR but I don't want the ATF/government up my ass when ever they feel like it.  I am also a memebr of several LLC's I probably should run it thru them correct???

Any input is appreciated.

Also as an FFL are their advantages to buying things guns/ammo, I assume I could have it all shipped to my house and or get some small discounts?  Again thanks for any help guys/gals.

Step 1 is get the C&R license.  This doesnt give BATFE the right to come into you house at any point.  Officially, since you are a C&R (collector), they can ask to see your Bound book, but you can set up an "appointment" to meet w/them them at a different location.  FWIW, I've never heard of anyone w/a C&R getting a visit or even asked anything abt their C&R (by BATFE).

You can have C&R guns shipped to your house.  Brownells and MidwayUSA give great discounts that will cost you lots of money.

Maybe soon I'll get around to doing my documentation again and finish the FFL for NFA owner ship document. Sorry for its incompletedness.

You need to venture over to Survivor's SKS Baards and read 1952Sniper's drama about being 'audited' as a C&R holder.

1952 Sniper's post on the SKS board

Here, let me offer another reason why I am personally letting my license go.  I had an ATF audit two weeks ago.  It was not pleasant.  I want out of this system.  I have pretty much all the old rusty milsurp stuff a man could want, and if there's anything else I need, I'll buy it privately.  But I want the ATF out of my life.

For starters, the ATF agent was insistent on doing a "premises inspection" at my house.  I had to argue with him and quote regulations to him to show him that he did not have the right to do a premises inspection, and that I had the option to do any records/inventory inspection at his office.  He did not like that, but I stood my ground.  So I then had to drag several dozen rifles to their office in the trunk of my car, and do the inspection there.

But the guy is still adamant that he needs to do a premises inspection, and wants to check my home for "secure storage" and to verify that it's still the licensed premises.  No matter what I say to him, I can't seem to convince him that the requirements for a collector are different than that of a dealer.  As of right now, he is leaving me alone.  But I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, and for him to start pestering me again to come to my house.

When I was at his office and he was going through my records, I noticed he had a map to my house in his file folder.  And he was asking me where my licensed premises were.

He was also asking me other questions about my property which were none of his business.  I politely deflected those questions, but I still didn't like it.

He was even asking me about the dispositions I've made, trying to trap me into saying that I was using my license to buy firearms for other people.  But then later on he tried telling me that I should be using my license for livelihood and profit.  I kid you not.  He was trying to tell me that my license should be used actively and that they expect to see regular acquisitions and dispositions, or the license should be let go.  I tried to correct him that this was a collector's license which is specifically NOT to be used for livelihood and profit, but he insisted that all FFLs are for that purpose.

There's a lot more to the story, but to be quite honest I don't even want to think about it right now.  The point is that this guy doesn't know what he's doing, and he carries the full authority of the ATF behind him.  If I piss the guy off, he can make my life a living hell.  Even though, as you know, I do everything possible to stay within the letter of the law.  It is HIS ignorance that will cause me problems.  And if I try to go over his head to ensure that my rights are kept intact, it will just piss him off even more.

So as far as I'm concerned, this is it for me.  I'm letting my license lapse.  I want out of this.  It's not worth the hassle or the fear.  Which I'm sure is exactly what they want.  But I'm no longer willing to play their games.  I'm not willing to just roll over and let them into my home or harrass me.  And the more I fight them and stand up for myself, the more I risk them making my life hell.

This is the downside to being a part of their system.

Sounds like an idiot Agent to me...

Out of all the people I personally know who have C&R's, and those who I know on forums, and those who I know about who have them on forums, this is the only occurrence I have ever heard of, of a "onsite" inspection.  There have been a couple people I know of that have been asked for a meeting to go over boundbooks only, some had theirs onsite, some went to the ATF offices, some went to a neutral place such as a quiet diner or library, but this is the only instance of a mandatory "onsite" inspection I have ever heard of.
It sounds like a newbie agent, or maybe just as asshole using the his title to be a bigger asshole.

What is a bound book I would assume that it is a book with a list of guns I have purchased since I got the C&R?

Yep, its a book were you log in all "acquisitions" and log out all "dispositions".
Manf., Model, Serial, Type, Who you bought it from or sold it to.

Basically with a C&R though all you can do is buy for yourself correct?  You are not using it as a business.

Yes, it is only to enhance your collection, and using it to conduct business is prohibited.
That's not to say you can't sell things you buy, you just can't do it as a business, and you can't do it to make it easier for your friends to buy things.

another "stupid" question.  let's say I have a C&R ffl.  i go to the gun show/gun shop and buy a glock/sig/non-c&r firearm.  Do I have to log this in the bound book?

No, because it is not a C&R firearm.  Same with a Savage Model 110 in .30/06 or a Benelli M1S90.
