[ARCHIVED THREAD] - SHOT Show (Page 1 of 2)
Posted: 1/17/2011 5:03:20 PM EDT
| Headed to Vegas tonight. I'll try to get some cool pics the next couple of days. Ran into a good friend at the airport that's headed there, too. Should be a good time! Anyone else gonna be there from HTF? |
| Spent the first part of the day walking around and probably only saw 10% of the exhibitors. Best ones were SilencerCo (new Sparrows are awesome and centerfire cans are coming, but no details. Should be this year sometime), SWR (had a few centerfire cans - looks like they've made some progress), McCree Precision (Scott always has good stuff). Headed to the bigger area after lunch and will try to get a few pics. |
according to this thread, the new innovation from glock this year is a backstrap with a beavertail for the gen 4 guns, along with a 25 year special edition g17.
as much as i like my glocks, their marketing and r&d people seem to be retards.

They should have just kept chugging along the 4th gen craze with the 21 Gen4.

Don't expect the carbine or a single stack 9 for a while. They're still working on facilities and it seems to be the dominant priority for US production (ie building the buildings and getting stuff setup.) Yes there are US made guns but it's just for basic 17s and 19s. All R&D, new models, etc is done in Austria. It's all done usually without US input.
For now, look for more additions to the Gen 4 lines. You never know what will come out next, but I'd hold my breath for a singlestack compact 9. |
I know this, SIG P290 got released today. Anyone got any upclose pics and thoughts on it?

It's the same size as a P238. It's polymer, where the P238 is metal. So why dies it weigh more than a P238? |

they would sell a container ship FULL of single stack 9mm pistols (G19 size, please) My fear is one day, but not any time soon, GLOCK will release a exactly what you mention ... a G19 size single stack 9mm. I say I fear this because it will be met with marginal success and GLOCK will say, "This is exactly why we didn't release this X years ago. No one wants it." Correct, I don't want it if the overall, absolute dimensions are the same as my 15rd G19. I say overall dimensions because I see GLOCK releasing a new single stack frame with a G19 slide on top. The overall, max width will be the same because it both pistols will utilize the exact same slide. Think G36 here. I carried a G30 for over a year and could conceal it just fine. I later bought a G36 and found the only thing I gained was 4 less rounds. FAIL. I owned the G36 for less than 48 hours. Luckily, I had bought a used one at a VERY good price so I didn't lose anything for my moment of brain freeze. If/when GLOCK does ever produce a single stack 9mm I would like it to be a G26 size frame (height & length of G26, but with a thinner, single stack grip) but with a slimmer slide, as slim as they can safely (& reliably) make it. Otherwise, what's the point? |

It all boils down to some peoples hands were molded around a 1911 or XD and will never accept a Glock shaped frame. It's just physics..

Glock isn't the only game at the SHOT show, hate to ruin the love fest.
The first gun that I will buy in 2011 will be the new Smith & Wesson M&P .22LR. It will supplement the training and practice regiment at a fraction of the cost. Great for teaching new shooters too. Sig has an AK like rifle that uses real AK magazines. It is supposed to be more user friendly and more accurate than the AK. |

Today a nut shell.
Arrive @ 2am after getting bumped from my earlier flight, get up@ 545am, meet friends at 7 am to get pass. At show from.730-540. No lunch. Poker tourney status in 1 hour. Keltec shotgun! Wow. Bullpup. 14 +1. Selectable ammo tube. Worlds largest gun safe. 300 guns! Only 12 k. Night vision coming down in price. Nightforce with zero stop... Do want! Lots to see. I got some kns anti rotation pins. |

I got some kns anti rotation pins. wow: The KSG is our first entry into the shotgun market. The size, shape and design are similar to the currently available Kel-Tec RFB rifle, but the KSG ejects downward, instead of forward. The KSG weighs 6.9lbs and is as compact as legally possible with a 26.1" overall length and an 18.5" cylinder bore barrel. Even with this compact size, the internal dual tube magazines hold an impressive 14 rounds of 12 gage 2-3/4" rounds (7 per tube). The simple and reliable pump action feeds from either the left or right tube. The feed side is manually selected by a lever located behind the trigger guard. The lever can be positioned in the center detent in order to easily clear the chamber without feeding another round from either magazine. A cross bolt style safety blocks the sear, and the pump release lever is located in front of the trigger guard. |

Someone PLEASE snag a picture of the Sig AK. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v503/AKsrule/SIGRUSSIAN.jpg Quoted:
And will it come with $5 sights, $10 quad rail, and a $20 optic like the 556 did? Hopefully they skip the chi-com accessories and provide decent accessories this time. Is the "SIG" red dot the same make as what Primary Arms sells under their brand? I was hoping to see a milled AK....not a 556 that shoot 7.62 Ohh well...maybe next time....at least Sig still has their ARs and p250

And I KNOW that the design of that shotgun existed before.....but I cannot remember what the dang thing was called. Anyone remember? |

Don't know if I mentioned it, but was impressed with the Winchester Archery setup. They've just gotten into the market, but their crossbow looks like a competitor.
Saw some neat Crosman air guns. Thinking Swarovski could do some damage in the high end scope market if they had any reticles with horizontal ticks. Beautiful glass, though. They're proud of it, but I could tell a difference between theirs and the Leupolds. Nifghtforce's FFP 3-15 (I think) was very nice - definitely the coolest "new" scope I saw. March had a nice stand - very nice scopes for BR shooters. |

There is a similar shotgun that was or is manufactured in South Africa. I can't remember the name either. There was also an American company that had a very similar design at last years SHOT. From what I heard they got bought out or went tits up before it could come to market. |
