I need a good restaurant in south county that's good for an anniversary Thursday night.  I wanna double this trip and pick up a Craigslist score off Telegraph at the same time without a bunch of drive time.  I have to be back in Washington by about 8:30 to take the sitter home.

There's probably good places on Telegraph, but it's been so long since I lived up there that I don't know anymore. (Lots of changes since I was a pup).

The place to comes to mind for me, within an easy driving distance, is the Longhorn steak house near Crestwood;

Longhorn??? For an anniversary???  If you want a nice place there is Bartolino's South on South Lindbergh a few miles north of 55.  There is also Gioninos on Telegraph, but they are much more casual.

I say Tuckers Place.  One of the best steaks in town and they have those huge private booths with sliding doors.  I also highly recommend their potato skins and grilled veggies.

They are right across Lindbergh Blvd. from South County Mall on Union Blvd.  Kinda behind Krisy Kreme donuts.

I don't know how dressed up you want to get but for casual Garvey's on Telegraph has great food. Their steak sandwich on cheese garlic bread is the best I've had. If your a pizza guy they also have great pizza. Garvey's is located on Telegraph at Gephart. Right next to the gas station on the corner. For a step up as someone suggested Tucker's has good food.

go to Urbanspoon.com and type in the zip code.  The locals will tell you exactly what you want to know for any area in the country.

Roberto's in Concord Village.  Linen table clothes, waiters and staff that actually attend to your needs and the best italian off the "Hill" that you can have in SOCO.

Sam's Steak House on Gravios is great with huge baked potatos to accompany awesome steaks.

It's not really south county, but The Charcoal House on Manchester Rd in Webster Groves would be well worth the drive.  The Chateaubriand for two would be a wonderful anniversary dinner.  I would make a reservation and let them know it's for your anniversary. Their number is 314-968-4842.

Sam's or Bartolino's.  Both are better than Aldo's.

I don't understand why everyone seems to love Tucker's so much.  Yea the food is decent, but it certainly isn't what I would consider exceptional.  Different strokes I guess.

Suppose its all on what their idea of hitting the town is.  To each their own...

I use to like Bart's, but after the incident where the wedding party got sick I just can't get past it.

For a 20 dollar filet it can't be beat. There are better steak houses out there though but for the money it's a good deal.
