Police responded in force to reports of a man with a gun in Southeast Portland late Monday –– only to find a confused customer and staff at a gun store.

Was it an AK?

A passerby outside the Gun Room Inc., 5537 S.E. Foster Rd., called 9-1-1 about 6 p.m. to report that a man standing outside was holding a gun and looked "nervous and sweaty," said Sgt. Pete Simpson, a Portland Police Bureau spokesman.

A guy with a gun at a gun store... call SWAT!

People today are such idiots!

They will call 911 for any reason!  Just recently, when a VIP was in town, F-15 fighter jets were scrambled because a small airplane violated a TFR zone.  The 911 lines were locked up all over south west WA for over an hour (IIRC) because of people calling to say that they heard a sonic boom.

In my own personal experience, I couldn't get through to 911 for 10 minutes when several massive propane tanks exploded at 4 am near my house - because every moron in the nearby town was calling 911 to report that they heard a loud explosion.  When I finally got through, I was the first to tell the dispatcher exactly what happened and the exact location of the incident.

 /end of rant

Probably a glock...

I like this quote:
"The police response was appropriate," Simpson said. "If you thought someone was robbing a gun shop, you're going to show up with guns."

The funny part is,  the guy behind the counter at the gun store is probably a much better shot than any Portland cop.

They also have more guns and ammo.

I just don't understand the logic of the Portland Police.  Not just in this instance,  but 99% of the time.

Are you sure it's not just police responding to reports of a potential customer at The Gunroom?

Which naturally means that customer needed rescuing.

I can sorta understand this.

I went into The Gun Room before too, and I also came out nervous and sweaty.

Back when I worked at the Gun Broker, Royd  told me he had a guy to try rob him at knife point.

I went to the gun room today to buy a decapping rod because mine was bent.  The one I found was looked too long, and I told Warren I didn't know if it would work because it was about a half inch longer than the one I brought into the shop for comparison.

Warren told me don't pay for it yet, take it home and try it, and if it worked to come back in and pay him...I almost fell over as I'm just not used to him being that way.  I figured I would get a lecture about how I didn't know what I needed...   Maybe he is starting to pay attention to all the things that are being posted about his shop.

I think we have to be willing to give credit where it is due...You could have knocked me over with a feather though....

Don't discount the leftist. That shop is located in Indian Country.

The title is misleading...I didn't read anywhere in that article that SWAT showed up and Portlands tac team is called SRT fyi

I fail to see the big deal.  Regardless of it being a gun store or not, if someone calls and reports a person with a gun (especially in a city setting) yer gonna get a police response.  Maybe I am missing the point, no one was arrested, no guns were "confiscated" and no citations issued, whats the problem?  Because the police showed up with guns?  Or had rifles deployed?  If someone is reported to having a gun, I'd come prepared as well.  Sure if I got the call and saw the location, I'd probably be thinking, I'll bet its someone there to sell a gun or that just bought one, but I'm still gonna come into it expecting the worst case scenario....to do otherwise would just be complacent

If the police failed to show up on a "man with a gun" call, now that would be a story...

No, that would be sanity. I can only imagine myself as a dispatcher here:

Me: 911 what's your emergency?
Caller: There is a man with a gun!!!
Me: Is he committing an actual crime?
Caller: Isn't having a gun a crime?
Me: No. Please go change your tampon sir.

Oh, I'm OK with people with guns.  It is the rest of the Portland metro area...they are so filled with libertards that they think someone with a gun HAS to have evil intent just because they have a gun.  I know that isn't the case, and in fact, I like knowing that more sane people out there are armed.  I believe that an armed society is a polite society.

My comment was aimed at the libertards who would have a cow if the police didn't respond to a man with a gun call...even if he wasn't doing anything illegal.  A perfect example of that was the fellow at the Vancouver area safeway a couple of months ago who was simply doing his shopping with an open carry pistol.  Someone called the police, and he was told to cover it up or leave...even though he was not breaking any law.  So, if the police didn't respond to a man with a gun call, the local press would figure out some way to bitch endlessly.

Spot On!

You don't hear any "drunk driver with a car" calls outside of a bar causing a ruckus and making news, yet it happens every night.   Which kills more people by far more every year again?

Drunks kill more people than gun users do every year.  Funny how no one asks to ban private ownership of vehicles or alcoholic beverages.  But, just as it is with firearms, inanimate objects don't cause problems.  It is people who misuse those objects that cause the problem.  It seems to me that our society wants to avoid responsibility in many areas, including responsibility for our own actions...it is far easier to blame an inanimate object than focus the responsibility where it belongs; on the person who chose to misuse those objects.

don't give anyone any ideas...  I'm sure there is someone out there trying to get a street car put into every neighborhood.

I like this. It matches my experience there.

The good news is, when the police show up, they don't have to be worried about being shot by the employees with a "Brazilian steel" M1 with their cop seeking bullets.

They wouldn't have to worry, as the cops probably still have Glocks, and the employees at the Gun Room know the problem would take care of itself...
