| Anyone have recommendations for someone in the OKC area that moves gun safes? Moving houses, and have to move my safe. Not huge or anything, fairly typical 18-24 size safe. |
|
You might check with the moving companies, they move heavy stuff all the time, also H&H safe dept has all the equipment to move safes, they had some nice equipment when they delivered mine, it was easy, but would have been a nightmare without the proper equipment. |
| Contacted H&H and they're going to get back with me. I've called a few of the normal moving places and had poor results so far. They seem to be concerned with moving something so heavy, and one outright said no, while two others said they needed to check with their insurance due to the liability. |

I would also recommend H&H. I purchased a safe from them last fall and I had to have the safe moved last month, I ended up calling them to have it moved again. They have all the needed equipment: hydraulic trailer, electric dolly, 2x4s with some plastic runners on top to help slide the safe around.
I would also recommend tipping (as in money, not the safe. ) if there is a chance that you might need a safe moved again. Even if you don't it's still a nice gesture. |

Also if you have access to a lift gate moving truck, a UHaul appliance dolly can handle up to 700 pounds. Dont know what your safe weighs. Without a lift gate truck a very low trailer with a couple people to help it up...as a last resort.
You may also contact piano moving company, they deal with heavy stuff and maybe have done safes. |
| H&H delivered the one we bought from them. The two guys that did it weren't that big but they got it unloaded, moved and bolted down unbelievably fast. You could tell it wasn't their first time. I would highly recommend H&H. Not nearly as cheap as a half dozen of your buddies working for beer but well worth the peace of mind. |

Those things are heavy enough that you really need the proper equipment to move them, although I did my first safe all by myself. I spend most of my life in the appliance business, I know how to move heavy stuff, up to the level of a mid sized safe. Atwoods used a fork lift to load it in the box truck I rented to get it home, I unloaded it from the truck by myself, unbolted it from the base, and moved it to the back bedroom of my house, all by myself. Its all leverage and knowing how to move large heavy items, but that was at the upper limit, so one much bigger or heavier would be out of the question. When I got my Fatboy Jr from H&H, I knew there was no way, I was a few years older plus this was a much bigger, and MUCH heavier safe, so I let them deliver it and bolt it down, that's the easy way, not cheap, but I wasn't a bit sore the next day! |

My safe weighs 895 lbs. we lifted the door off the hinges and moved it separately. We tilted one side, slid a small furniture dolly under it. Then did the same to the other side. We rolled it to its resting spot, removed the dolly, then anchored it, then installed the door.
It wasn't easy but my brother in law and I unloaded it and moved it. |

Open the door and pop the door off the hinges. Should pick straight up and off. This take 100+ lbs off the weight and weighs more than the rest of the safe. Easy to move at this point and requires no special equipment.
My wife hired a local moving company and they came in, popped the door off, picked up the rest of the safe with a basic hand cart and had the whole safe loaded on their truck in less than 10 minutes. Cost her $50 to learn we could of done this our selves. |
