Well, I guess we will be heading West for a visit to Memphis..... I think it's just a 2-day road trip to kinda see the Bass Pro Shop & the general area. We'll be needing to stay overnight at a hotel near there; So what is the safest areas out on the perimeter to look for a decent hotel? NE, SE, SW, NW, or You are S.O.L.?

The Midtown area where I live is actually mostly pretty chill, but there aren't any hotels there. I'd stay at one of the I-40 places 12-20 miles out, Bartlett, Collierville, Germantown, etc. Easy drive in to downtown and Bass Pro. Even "rush hour" traffic on I-40 isn't really bad. |
If you go west and stay in Marion, AR there is a good chance you will see at least one police chase with Arkansas State Police on I-40 if you are there over the weekend. Nothing like catching a good show on the road...  And there are several placed in Marion that are good and safe - I have stayed in one or two of them before. |

I consider "minimum safe distance" to be: 1. Arlington 2. Millington 3. Olive Branch 4. Marion In addition to geographic separation, I consider 1-3 (at least) to have a relatively functional judicial system. I'd rather drive a little further than wait around for Memphis PD to show up and chew Me out when my vehicle windows get busted out. YMMV |
