Humour me one last time 'cos i keep forgetting, if minimal Barrell length is 12&half inches does/can that length include the Flash hider?
|
Yep, and it's 300mm ETA:- If the Flash Hider is permanently attached |
|
Yeah 300mm minimum length. The only problem with a perminant flash hider is that it has to be attached from build, as at no point can the barrel be under the 300mm. The only way i can see around this is to attach it to a longer barrel, then cut down and re-chamber the other end. |
Totally untrue, an RFD can cut a barrel below length if effecring a repair or modification. A non-RFD can't |
How certain are you of that? I beleive that once a barrel is under 300mm it is S5, and always will be, no way to turn it back. |
It's in the Firearms (amendment) Act 1988 and it says (2) It is not an offence under this section for a registered firearms dealer to shorten a barrel of a gun for the sole purpose of replacing a defective part of the barrel so as to produce a barrel of not less than 24 inches. This has been updater in the 1998 act, but I don't have that to hand. If a non RFD, ie, a FAC or SGC holder were to shorten their barrel to below the legal minimum length, they face 6 months on summary conviction or 5 years on indictment (whatever that means) |
Boring legal bit:
and almost the same; In both cases above the measurement is from the muzzle to the point at which the charge is exploded (FA 1968 s57(6)(a)) For firearms (s1) not being smooth-bore, the lengths are; barrel - 30cm (c.11.8") and overall - 60cm (c.23.6"). The barrel length is measured as above and since metrification there is a slight reduction in minimum lengths. (FA 1968 s57(6)(a) and F(A)A 1988 s25(1)) As far as short barrels go, for RFDs and manufacturing processes there are NO S5 parts only parts of S5 weapons. That means until the part is assembled to/into a S5 weapon it will remain at the lower category. Once part of a S5 weapon then you will be correct, it cannot become a S1 ( or other lower) category part. I have a stack of warrants here and I know Streetfighter has one as well where this was tested, we are both still in business and had all the confiscated items returned and reports from FSS confirming the S1 status of part(s) taken. The HO sent me a letter confirming this as I asked before I went into business (actually received well before the search and siezures but this was disregarded at the time )
