The Central Texas phase of my summer trip begins soon, and it'll include a couple days in SA. We've been a few times before, and we usually end up eating in some mediocre, overpriced river walk place, and I want something better this time. Asking for suggestions for good food, regardless of style. We all love Mexican and TexMex, but are interested in anything interesting and locally owned. |

I got to SA every year for a convention and try to avoid everything on the Riverwalk, but got drug down there for one business dinner, and I just found out I have another dinner at Guadalajara Grill between the convention center and the old Hilton. I'm already dreading it. The food isn't bad, it's just the same food I can get just about anywhere else in Texas and not worry about walking or parking. We do hit the Little Red Barn every year. Family style steaks and chicken fried steaks and fried chicken, salad. Quiet, laid back. After a day of convention, I appreciate it. My friend always goes for drinks at the Menger Hotel, I finally had my foot surgery, so I may walk down there for a bourbon. We've been to the Pearl district a couple of times, food is different, but again, parking and pricey. |

On the river there are only two places we eat Boudros and Casa Rio. Casa Rio has some old school Texas red and cold Lone Star Longnecks. It is more reasonable than most other places on the river. Boudros has been there for long enough for us to eat there on our honeymoon and on our 30th anniversary. Always a good steak and prickly pear Margaritas. Guacamole is damn good too. We eat breakfast at Mi Tierra. Even though it is a tourist trap the flour Tortillas are the best I have had and I have tried lots of them. Thick cut bacon . Great coffee or so my wife says. We also eat at Schilos right above the river near Casa Rio. Great breakfast. German food. There are plenty of other great places but we are stuck with our favorites. If you are cheap like me and want a beer on the river walk just go into the CVS and get you a beer for cheap. |

I'm going back next week, staying at the same airbnb I always stay at. Is there anything at the Pearl worth checking out? I have a business dinner at Guadalajara Grill but I'm not super excited about that. My wife is going to want me to take her to Rosario's Lalo margaritas. |
