My neighbor and a buddy went out of Steinhatchee today, and then  north along the coast.  Tide was perfect around 9 AM, and we picked up enough scallops to fill a large cooler in a few hours.

The rest of the day we just enjoyed being out on the water.  Beautiful day, clear skys, bright sun.  Several hot topless girls on some of the other boats as well.

North of Steinhatchee, near the panhandle, we're hearing that scallops aren't turning up for shit.

I went out of Keaton Beach 2 wks ago (20 miles north of Stein, south of Perry).  We caught our limit both days.  They were right outside of the Keaton Beach area, lots of boats.

FYI: w/shell...2.5gal per person, 10gal max per boat... FWC doesn't play around with scallops if caught over limit or out of area.

I've also been out... Keaton beach, stein, and wikki.   Got limit all three times and gave them to others that went with, I can't stand seafood!

Probably going back to Keaton beach in a couple of weeks to get more and to setup some stands for hunting season.... it's a 4+ hour drive there, so I try to get a
few things done when I'm there.

we are well aware of what regulations, and limits apply to gathering scallops.  Thanks though.

From the FWC site:
Open harvest season for bay scallops along Florida’s gulf coast begins July 1 and runs through September 10. State waters in the Gulf of Mexico open to scallop harvest extend from the Pasco-Hernando County line (near Aripeka—latitude 28 degrees, 26.016 minutes North) to the west bank of the Mexico Beach Canal in Bay County (longitude 85 degrees, 25.84 minutes West).  It is illegal to possess bay scallops on water outside open harvest areas.
It is also illegal to land scallops outside open harvest areas. For
example, it would be legal to take scallops from waters off the Hernando County coast, but it would be illegal to dock your boat in Pasco County with the scallop catch onboard.

Recreational harvesters are limited to two gallons of whole bay scallops in the shell, or one pint of bay scallop meat, per day during the open season. In addition, recreational scallopers may possess no more than 10 gallons of whole bay scallops in the shell, or ½ gallon of bay scallop meat, aboard any vessel at any time. Bay scallops may be harvested only by hand or with a landing or dip net. They may not be harvested for commercial purposes.

I love the Steinhatchee area.
I joined a hunt camp up there 10yr ago.
Its the best of both of worlds, hunting and fishing.
If there was work Id  live there.
