Ok, so I'm bringing home a new Savage 30-06 tomorrow. All the goodies like accustock and accutrigger. These things are crazy accurate so I need a scope recommendation. Needs to be decent magnification, variable, maybe a bdc since this will be a hunting rifle and must be tough enough to withstand real world use. Now...is anything like that gonna happen? Not the way things are going but I like to be prepared |

I have a Nikon Prostaff, its probably the worst scope I own, easily beat by even the cheapest Bushnell Banners. Much better choices: Nikon Buckmaster, I've got a 6-18x Buckmaster, nice scope Nikon Monarch Vortex any model, I've got a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44, its superb! |

I've got Nikon Prostaff's on my M&P 15-22 and Remington 514 (they are really good scopes), a Vortex Viper HS LR 4-16x50 for the Grendel (haven't tried it yet but seems good so far) and Leupold 1.25-4x20 VX-R Hog Plex on the Beowulf (haven't tried it either but seems like a good scope).
I was thinking a Trijicon AccuPoint but they are pricey, but I do love Trijicon stuff, but is pricey, but.....you get the picture. |
| You might give the Redfiekd Revolution with the accu-range a look. My son has one on his Marlin 1895 45-70 and ha has had no issues with it. It has a very clear crisp sight picture an it has held up very well to the recoil of the rifle. They are running about 270.00 on optics planet. |

I could get the darn thing to stay sighted in. I think it was older than dirt and I think that kind of scared me away from bushnell. I have heard good things about redfield. Like all things I do had I done a little more research I probably would have gone with a redfield. |
| Not much out there better than Leupold at that price point but $ for $ I'd take the Burris Fullfield II with the bdc. The glass is as good as Leupold, they're American made and have a lifetime warranty. Of course if price is no object then Swarovski is the top of the mark. |

Picked up the rifle today. A very nice Savage 116 FCSS "Weather Warrior" in 30-06 with the AccuTrigger and AccuStock. I had one years ago and I loved it but sold it. Now they are even more accurate and better shooting so I'm pretty happy about getting it Edit: After doing several hours more research I think I'm going to buy another Viper HS LR 4-16x50 scope for the Savage. The one on my Grendel really feels good...once I get the Grendel sighted in/broke in I'll know for sure but as of now looks like it's going to be a twinkie of my current Vortex. |

I have 2 Nikons. An Omega 3-9x40 w/bdc on my TC .50 ML barrel and a pro staff 3-9x40 on my TC .30-06 barrel. I really like both of them. Nikon makes good glass for the price. With that said, I have a Trijicon Accupoint 3-9x40 duplex on my 18" 6.8 upper that I love. You really do get what you pay for. I can't always afford it, but subscribe to the theory of spending as much on glass as the rifle. Or at least the barrel/upper for ARs and TCs.
If you get a chance look at the Trijicon Accupoint. They make it in mildot (which some prefer to BDC) and standard duplex reticule. In time I plan on replacing my other scopes with these. I just can't stop buying uppers long enough to get new scopes. LOL. |
| The Trijicon AccuPoint 5-20x50 was the one that I had settled on but I think for the money the Vortex is going to be the one. The only thing that put me off the Trijicon, other than price, was the lack of a BDC. That was also the only 'con' listed that I could find so maybe they'll offer a BDC reticle in the future. |
