Not recommended:

Seriously, learn to love your irons first.  I have one of the very few M4geries out there with a fixed carry handle / A2 sights and I love it.  The main reason I have that is so that I can practice with what I will deploy with.

Sight-in your rifle, IAW the Tech. Manual and practice like crazy with irons.  When you are proficient (making one jagged, little hole @ 25 meters, putting on paper @ 100 meters with the same ease as breathing, eating or drinking), then it's scope time.  Even after you have a scope, you still need to practice with iron sights (what if your batteries die, you drop the rifle and scope breaks, etc.?).

I second JSBunchanumbers on this one...

A lot of us saw you shooting this weekend, learn to use your irons first. They will not let you down. Then, and only after you have your skills up to par with your irons, then get yourself an EOtech or something.

You WILL thank us later for this advice.

Yep, dont bother with a scope unless you are up to par with irons. It might make you hit better in the short run but you will be trading experience and skill for ease. What then if the scope breaks?

Okay I will take that advice.  This weekend was my fourth time shooting an AR. Sometimes I was aiming, other times I let it slide and just shot away.   Not all of us are born a perfect shot. Thanks to those who cut me some slack and worked with me.

Dont have to be born with it, You just need to have someone that is willing to help you learn to do it the right way, Then you need to keep at it. Shooting is a perishable skill.

Keeps the bad habbits, and the danger down to you, and those around you.

You work with your irons, and by this time next year you will be doing just fine.

exactly. Bad things happen when you stop shooting for several years (was in college, in a foreign country, no money) and now I have a good job and have started tossing money around. It'll come...but it'll take some practice.

2 Lbs of hummus and a small jar of pickles. 4 walla walla sweet onions, electrical tape and 3 spark plugs is all I need. If you are not too busy though I could also use some 16 penny nails and a small duck.

So seriously man I have not seen you shoot but if you follow what is in that tutorial and practice it when you can your shooting WILL improve without firing a shot. It simply takes time and patience.

Noone on this site will say they were born a natural shot. All of us have worked hard to become so. I doubt anyone here will laugh at your attempts to better yourself. Ammo costs money and at the current rate it is money poorly spent just blasting away without aiming IMO. Unless of course you are rich and dont care then blast at will sir!

If you had the mid-term review I had before the LCR from a brand new boss, you would want to fire away  too! But will study the tutorial. thanks.

Have you even sighted your rifle in yet? If not, any practice you do will be for little to nothing more than practicing your squeeze.

25 yds, 25 min's, 25 rounds, and you will be well on your way.

We worked on sighting it in over the weekend.... Does the rear site need to stay in same position at all times? Or does distance matter?

Something went wrong with my iron sights starting at about age 40 and as I close in on 50 my front sight has totally vanished.  Fortunately my wealth has increased as my physical ability has diminished.  I'll hire one of you youngsters to patrol my sconce....  Naw, you'd just screendoor my lovely bride.  I'll buy a EoTech and save us all some trouble.

Let the kids brag about irons all they want. They'll find out, soon enough.

But I can blame it on the scope, now.

Irons are only for handguns, that ride in holsters.... unless being at a disadvantage appeals to you.
