I will need something to go on my new Bradley Arms :-) I'm going to start CSR this year, but will also need something suitable for more regular use (foxes primarily), so a 1-4.5 is probably not enough magnification and I'll shoot the open optic class. I also don't have a huge budget (£5-600 for something s/h maybe). Leupold 3.5x10x40 looks like it might be worth looking at, any other suggestions? |

I've always thought that while it's good to limit yourself to a budget, with optics it pays to get the best you can. The good thing about optics is that they are transferable between rifles and can last you a long long time.
I use a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22 x 56 for CSR. It's a great scope for shooting CSR open class and great for practical rifle. I also have a 4x ACOG. I'm probably going to look at a Schmidt and Bender Short-dot in the near future to replace a 10x42 Schmidt and Bender PMII I'm selling. I'd be inclined to research the optic that is best for you and that ticks all your boxes, bite the bullet (so to speak) and go get it. Might mean saving extra up for a month or two, or even getting it on the drip but it's better than buying something that you never really feel happy with and end up wanting to upgrade. |

And try before you buy if possible. Look through and shoot with as many of your mates scopes as possible. I found a big difference between S+B and Leupold when it comes to how critical eye relief was. On your budget you should find a secondhand S+B if you want one. |

I picked up both of my Loopy Mk IV LR/T's 4.5-14x40 & 50 s/h for under £500. They are very suitable for CSR and your hunting needs.
I'm currently trying to fund something from the MR/T range which would certainly be good for CSR and probably most hunting applications. |

You can still shoot in the Service Optic Class aslong as you turn the mag down to 4.5x.... I'm currently using the Leupy 2.5-8x36 with M1 turrets. That's one I hanker after. How do you get on with it? My previous AR optics for CSR were ACOG's, as I liked the compact size and BDC rets, especially since I use RG ammo. ( I still use an ACOG for ETR matches) For CSR Service Optic, I wanted to keep the weight down and I prefer a smaller form factor, so the Leupold MR/T range seemed to fit the bill. I've been using mine for a year now and I'm liking it so far. They have decent glass and repeatable turrets; I'd buy another one. |

Quoted: Have a look at the IOR scopes, have a look at their 2x12x32, I have one on my AUG, highly recommended, source via Border Barrels or your local gunplumber. Yes, I did think about IOR.. feedback I got though was that they were a bit weighty? I do like 2nd focal plane having said that.. so maybe I'll look again. |

I'm beginning to conclude that the new S&B 1-8 shortdot is really what needs to go on top of my new BAR.. (though I'm still going to look at the IOR 2-12x36 Spartan when I get a chance).. So, this mean 2 things..
1. I'm going to have to save some more (anyone know how much they will be?)) and ... 2. Something cheap and Japanese might have to go on it in the meantime.. question is how much piss-taking will there be? |
