| Does anyone own, or have had experience with the semi auto bobcat or vector or ORF mp5 clones? Im considering getting one sometime after july, and was wanting opinions. |

For SEMI SBR option purchase a used SW-5 since that means somebody else already worked all fo the kinks out. Then call AAC and have them make you an "imi-tator" 9mm 3-lug fake suppressor. Send your SW-5 w/ fake can off to IGF or ORF for installation and avoid the $200 SBR tax. IF you must have an SBR same base model weapon, but have IGF or ORF pull the barrel and install a REAL 3-lug, that way 9mm cans are much easier to acquire in the 3-lug configuration. They also can be cheaper since more dealers have DEMO units in 3-lug than 1/2 x 28tpi. Good Luck. |
Are you saying a rifle that would otherwise be considered an SBR is considered within legal length limits when you attach a fake suppressor to it? Does that also apply to regular suppressors as long as the barrel length reaches 16"?
Damn... impressive. |
Only works with fake supperssors becuase they must be permenantly attached. A real suppressor must be dissasembled and cleaned, so it would not be feesable to permenantly attach a real suppressor. Besides, if doing the paperwork for a real suppresor, why not do SBR at the same time to make it totally legal. It's relatively easy in MD. I'm in on the ORF group buy, so whenever I get my receiver I'm going to register as an SBR, and then 6 months or so later I'll let you guys try it out. I have a POF parts kit sitting in my safe waiting. The other thing about registering it as an SBR is that you don't have to worry about imported parts counts. Just use all German or all POF parts other than the receiver since the import ban doesn't apply to NFA items. Otherwise you have to buy Special Weapons(bad reputation) parts since they are the only US parts maker. I believe ORF is talking about possibly making some of their own US parts at some point to overcome the issue of imported parts count. |
During the Ban the SBR would not effect the 'evil features'. As the SBR would still be a semi-automatic rifle... However if you purchased a RDIAS or LL then you could add all the evil features you wanted as it would now be 'fully automatic' and not subject to the semi-auto AW ban. |
Not familiar with either of those terms... RDIAS or LL. If you get it classed as a full auto then don't you run into issues with the law against "building" a machine gun? Class III is not my forte'.

RDIAS - Registered Drop In Auto Sear LL - Lightning Link RDIAS eliminates the need to drill for the 3rd hole (auto sear) as it performs the same function but you can 'drop it in'. Allows select fire if you have the other full-auto components. LL is a device which converts your semi-auto only into a full-auto only firearm. A very tempermental device, but it's cheaper than a RDIAS.
Nope, because the LL or the RDIAS is classified as the 'machine gun', there are plenty of transferable ones out there (albeit expensive). With them installed your AR becomes a 'machinegun' and you could have the evil parts. However if you removed the part -- your AR becomes a simple semi-auto and it had better NOT have the evil features if it was a post-ban. |

Where did POST-BAN come into this conversation? It's a mute point at this stage in the game. I reccomend for those guys not wanting to go the SBR route to purchase the fake suppressor model and send it off to have the "Imi-tator" installed. It is made out of a real AAC suppressor housing and looks the part...the Fake Suppressor's I see out there now look like complete shit- basically thicker tubing welded over the existing barrel. Here is what you have to look at when you decide to SBR an MP5/Hk94 clone...are you EVER planning to sell it? If so SBR'ing a clone is not worth the expense...first you pay $200 just to have it "look" the part..then if you want to run a CAN you have to either have the barrel pulled and install a 3-lug barrel or 3-lug adaptor. Both can get costly and at the end ofthe day it is still a CLONE.- That has lost depreciated and cost you additional money just to have it LOOK the part. The trick is to save your money and get a Hk94 and have it SBR'd that way should you decide to sell it you will never take a loss. The market is always hot for Hk products so you could literally sell it for more than you paid. I started out owning clones and when it was all said and done....it was worth my time and money to save a little longer and get what I wanted. |

Sorry I havent been around, works been crazy. I would buy a complete ORF clone or buy a parts kit and have jason at IGF build you one. I had Jason build me my first clone. The advantage to using him was I completly tricked out the piece, its identical to a MP-5.(Next project MP-5/10mm parts kit and new receiver from Tach Weaps) I would definatly get a three lug barrel(or a real German threaded/3 lug barrel, high dollar though) and pin on a fake suppressor this will make eazier for SBR later. Pre-post ban thing is dead and if you buy a registered sear pack to make it a MG, HKs and clones need to be registered as SBRs also if you intend to swap between different firearms. Just buy one youll love it. cheap to shoot, low recoil, fun. Sean |
i was reading laws today and was wondering. The Mp5 is not listed on the AWB list. The clones are of the Mp5 itself. But because it was on the MG list for FA, it wasnt on the AWB list. Does this mean if you build a semi auto copy of a Mp5 (not 94, which is on the list) Its not an AW in MD?

MP5 is a submachinegun. The HK 94 is the semi-auto 16" barreled legal version of the MP5, and is on the list. So, clones are regulated. |
WTF is a mute point? Do you mean MOOT? Sorry but that's one of those word usage things that always bugs me... like some people with lose and loose.
