| just have a question.. I applied for the apprenticeship program in November of last year and just recently got the letter to go in for testing.. However I have since relocated to Wisconsin, but would consider moving back to Las Vegas if I get into the apprenticeship program. What are my chances of getting accepted into the program when I pass the testing? Have they already checked my references and background if I got the letter for testing? I don't really want to spend the 500 for a round trip ticket, call off on my current and call off on my current job if it's not going to work out. What do you guys think? I know there will be more flying back and forth for the interviews and such too. |
| From what I have heard, they have alot of people on the books sitting around without work. Main reason I never took the test. I do find it odd that you are just now being contacted to test. I was contacted within 2 months of my initial application. But the fact that there is so little construction work out here had my adjust my plan. |
| Wow, you're probably one of the last few to be asked to test because they have been turning people away for a while now. It's fairly easy to get in after passing as long as you don't say any dumb shit and have some what of a thought out, sincere answer to their questions. It's literally a 2 min., 10 ? interview. My advice to you is, if you have something good going right now is to stick with it. You can always come back and test anytime when things turn around. Work is coming really slow and when we do get called out, it's not a long enough job. |

There is a lot of people on the list my dad, older brother and i are sheet metal workers from local 88 and i got laid off in November and still waiting.. If you do have something good were you at i would say stick with it. There are guys that have been on the books for like one year it’s really slow even thou we make good money our journey men make $42 or $44 an hour after you’re five years of school from the union. So good luck in whatever you decide to do |

Well that answers my question. Thanks guys. I was having a really hard time deciding whether or not to take the time off my current employer to go for testing. Funds are limited and plane tickets cost money. My current employer is just getting me by right now(barely) at $10 an hour |
